    Charging in SoCal:

Chargepoint seems to be the system most used in LA and Orange County. They have an iphone app that you can set up your account on which eliminates the need for a smart card. Some businesses and municipalities offer free charging through Chargepoint, but you'll still need an account to access it. I also signed up for a blink account, as they are more prevalent in North San Diego County. I use the 220 chargers at the Chargepoint locations and just use the 110 charger that came with the car at home, as I'm typically charging overnight. We use SDGE for power at home and they have a program where they tier your power rates depending on time of day. This tiered program gave us cheaper rates at all times of day than the fixed rate we had before. Our utility bill is now lower than it was before we bought the PIP, probably because we ran a pool pump before and its cost is now halved by running it after midnight.

There is a comparable Chargepoint app for Android phones. Works very nicely.

Except I noticed on the most recent update it seems to require me to log in every time the app is closed, which is incredibly inconvenient.

So it's not just me! I found that if you re-open the app from "Recent Apps" button, it won't ask for the login.

Wow! Your car purchase might not have been the best decision then - if, the difference in cost between gas & electricity transportation for a week ends up breaking the bank.

Obviously the bank won't be breaking if don't charge. I have to drive over 250 miles a on this Prius so I'm sure it was a good purchase. I'm gonna lose allot if I don't charge I average around 89-120 mpg depending on weather and the route; obviously it's a big difference from 50 mpg. It'll just not be worth it. My ES hybrid and RX hybrid get driven lest than 30 miles a day. I just can't convinces my self that It'd be a good move. I charge about 6 times on normal day, 6 of the charges are through 240v chargers at work . So I'm sure it's worth it and the right decision. They also have a advance option in which they send you a charger first then you send yours in and I was happy to take that option. ( I didn't go broke)

Wait, you charge 6 times every day? So how many all EV miles are you averaging a day?

Holy crap! Long term you will definitely be competing for the most EV miles. Have you found that thread yet? Any idea how many total EV miles you have so far?

I'm just worried about all the depreciation. I'll have just 300,000 miles when I pay off the car. My 2010 Prius had 200,000 miles in 2 years when it got salvaged. It was just a perfect car, I didn't even have to change the brakes. ( they were in great condition)

What do you do for a job that you have to drive it so much? Surely you can write some of these miles off tax-wise?

90% of them actually. I have a couple of routes which take packages from one place to another like FedEx but faster and much more reliable
