I find the Prius cars fascinating and therefore I have this window open most of the time when I'm working. There's so much new information that are shared, it's something new everyday.

I actually own 3 Prius cars, I have a 4th in my possession. The 4th one I just put in a transaxle that failed, the owner will come pick it up in April. This was a very good learning experience for me.

I do some of the work on the cars myself, but I mostly want the knowledge of how the cars are repaired and more importantly, how they fail. I have a full set of mechanic tools to do almost any of the DIY stuff mentioned here. My mechanic is 1 mile from my house and his rates are very good. Most of the time, if the car needs to be raised and off the ground, the car goes to the mechanic. If the repair can be done without raising the car, I tend to do it myself.

I was going to list some of the price I get charged for my services, you'll probably wonder how this guy stays in business......

$10 labor charge to do oil changes - I supply the fluids
$20 labor charge on transaxle fluid changes
$60 labor on brake pad replacement, including resurfacing rotors
    $10 labor on tire rotation
    $480 labor to install transaxle

The rest of the stuff that I can remember changing, I DIY.

My 2006 Prius is my working project and now my daily driver. I purchased the car from a member here that was going to trade it into Carmax. The car has multiple problems and it's pretty rough looking on the outside. He sold it to me at the same price as Carmax offered him at $4000 with 118k miles. This car is something I wanted as it has many items that requires attention, this will give me the hands on training in fixing this car. And best of all, I got it at a very good price and I can play/fix it anytime I'm free. It drives very well but sounds like crap. Driven it to Las Vegas twice and it was great!

Not for sure how to copy yet, the prices you listed are a give away, they must have low overhead. I think the Prius is a unique car too. Sound like you got a good deal on the 06.
Sounds like body work might be needed too. I may eventually have the hood and front bumper painted. I'm guessing these cars are base coat/clear coat .
Do you like a certain wax ?

My 06 has many scratches on the Bumpers, No major dents. I actually like it with the scratches, it doesn't bother me when someone adds another one. I'm quite paranoid about driving my 2010 cause it's in perfect condition, don't like that feeling.

Any wax would do, this is not an expensive car, just use a national brand and you can't go wrong. Buy the ones that requires minimal work in application and removal, No hard wax

Apparently they o6 I'm buying is the package 2, because it has the smart key, what else comes with that package?
Any brief tips on driving, looks like cruise control is not meant for larger hills.
I know you try to glide and brake less.
Are the factory cd/am fm and speakers any good?
Did not turn it on with the test drive.

06 package 2 is a basic package. In 07 they improved the equipment in package 2. You have a backup camera, smart key, and basic airbags, no curtain airbags. Stereo is no frills, but it provides sound. Not sure if 06 has the aux input, 07 package 2 has it. Make sure you get 2 smart keys, they are expensive

Forget the driving techniques, you'll gradually pick it up as you drive.

Good idea about both smart keys, wax tips are good.
I'm like you, scratches are ok, I just might get the gash in the bumper fixed.
I have only bought two new vehicles in my life a 1994 third gen rx7 Mazda, sweet car, and a 97 dodge cargo van. The car was one of those cars I didn't want scratched, but move beyond that now.
Hey late here on the east coast, off to car dreaming land.

There are no margins in these cars. If you get $500 off, consider yourself lucky.

I read on here somewhere that on the tire pressure on these cars, it should be inflated a little higher . Is there a pressure anyone like to keep it at?
