Yesterday my 2005's check engine light and triangle of doom came on. Even when I fully depressed the gas pedal, it would not drive faster than 35 mph. While waiting for the tow truck, I read the diagnostic codes. They were P0A80 and P3014. A search on Priuschat showed that the first code is the Traction Battery. Is that the same as the hybrid battery pack? Also, does anybody know if I can drive my car to the dealership or should it be towed to avoid any kind of further damage? Thanks!

Yes the Traction Battery and the Hybrid battery pack are the same thing. I believe the second code is telling you that the #4 module is the one that is reporting to be weak.

If you can clear the codes and drive the car you should be able to drive it to the dealership without doing any further damage.

I'm not sure, but I will definitely look into it.

Well, how far do you have to drive to get to the dealer, and is it safe to do so at a speed of only 35 mph?

It's normally 15 miles, but I would not take the highway, so it would be closer to 18 miles.

Probably OK to drive 18 miles on surface streets, but bring your cellphone in case you have to call for towing assistance.

I've called around to see what options I have. One dealership said $3393, another $5200. One hybrid repair said $2250 for a rebuilt or refurbished battery with a 3-year warranty. The other hybrid repair place said they have a number of batteries from new to refurbished to used. They recommended a low mileage used from a 2008 Prius that had 42,000 miles for $1700. I was only planning on keeping my vehicle for one more year at the very most. Does anybody have any thoughts?
