My car was parked on the side of the street. My neighbors car parked behind mine. A car crashed to my neighbor's car on the left side of my neighbor's car pushing it to the right onto the curb, then possibly hit/scratched my car on the left rear bumper, and drove away. The damage is as you see on the attached pic.

Do you think the damage in the picture comes from SHATTERED pieces (many broken pieces near my bumper) or it is caused by some slight(?) collision?

To be honest, I worry more about whether inner damage (like frame, transmission) exists. The rear bumper is only slight scratched and that does not matter. And the only visible damage on the car is what you see on the picture above.

But I also think, if the collision is not big enough to cause any dent on the bumper, possibly the collision is not big enough to cause any other damage other than the slight scratch on the car.

There's nothing in there that will rust. Someone else will have to help with the repairs though.

Great to hear that... My insurance has 1000 for collision/comprehensive deductible. So I hope to fix this cheap... Maybe I put a plastic sticker on it.

If you were hit from behind, doesn't the fix rest in the hands of the car that struck you?

No, the car behind me did not struck me... The scratch was from the broken pieces from his car. Do you think I should file a claim again owner of the car behind me?

You should report the accident to your insurance company and let them go after the driver that struck your car. Give them all of the information you gathered at the scene and let them sort it out. You shouldn't have to pay any deductible.

Thanks for your advice. I just filed a claim... It is a hit-and-run... So we don't know the driver who hit the car behind my car... But we reported to the police.

:)Go with the other guys insurance route first. Second, I'd try to rub out the scratches with some light rubbing compound and then touch up the one spot with touch up paint. If that doesn't work to your satisfaction, spend the $200 and return your 2014 to new status.

I'm not sure where you are located but service like this guy (SF Bay Area) should be able to make it nearly good as new:

$200 to fix that is actually a steal. I would pay it.

Both bumpers are plastic, they will never rust or get in worse shape if you scratch them. So it's up to you what to do. But 10 years from now it will look the same, and 100 years from now no one will care you had a bumper with damage.

You have a new car. If you can get it repaired for $200.00 that is a good deal. I would have it fixed right. You don't want to do an amateur repair job to your car, you will never be satisfied with it.

:)Depends on your level of expertise and the amount of damage. A $200 repair on a new car isn't a bad deal. We had some damage on our 2006 VW NewBeetle. The VW body shop did less than a acceptable job, was offered a full refund. To be fair I accepted half off. Later, had slight damage to the rear bumper cover, license plate & frame. I spent about an hour and was pleased with the results without taking to the dealer. Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) once said, "a mans got to know his limitations". I like a challenge.

You might check with your dealer to see if they have someone in their detail shop that can do the repair. Some dealers have someone on staff full time, and others use dent repair/detailers that come in on certain days of the week. In the past when I would bump into something (like a concrete wall) and scratched and dented the bumper cover, I paid under $200 to have it looking like new.

Do you guys think the car that hit and ran away did hit my car? Obviously the car hit the car behind my car. The car behind my car was badly damaged.

Suppose the guy did hit (or scratch) my car after he/she hit the car behind mine, based on the damage on the rear bumper, do you think my car will suffer from the damage of being pushed forward when parked (to the transmission)? Since the bumper did not come off, no dent, and only have a little scratch as you see in the picture (which may possibly come from the broken pieces, there were a lot of broken plastic pieces near the rear bumper right beside my rear bumper), i suppose even my car was hit/scratched, the damage besides the rear bumper is minimal or negligible.

Hope to hear what you guys think... It is my new car and first car... :)

How could the car that took off hit your car? Were you parked legally when this happened? Were you at the scene when it happened?

Yes. Legally parked on the side of the street.

I was not at the scene when this happened. So i am not sure whether the car hit my car or just some broken pieces scratched.

OK, now it makes sense. I'd still let the insurance company handle it. They should let you take it to a body shop or send an adjuster to assess the damage. Insist on OEM parts if any need to be replaced. You could also take it to the dealer and have them inspect it for you. They'd know if there's any hidden damage.

I did file a claim. They cannot find the hit-and-run driver (yet). I have like 1000 deductible for the collision and comprehensive. So I hope not to pay for it.

So I hope since the rear bumper does not indicate there was a powerful collision, I would just let it be.

I'm not seeing $1000 worth of damage and if that is your deductible, I bet your insurance company will require you pay out of pocket. If the hit/run driver is caught and they can collect from them, then you would be reimbursed. It will be tough to catch that driver if there were no witnesses.
