I had originally bought an OBDC Bluetooth connector via Amazon and got the Torque app. That app gave me some info but it did not allow me to *DO* anything. I saw the guy comment about Carista and decided to give that a try. I was not sure if it would work with the OBD connector I have bought but it connected flawlessly and gave me pages of stuff I could customize. VERY COOL! I really like having control over MY CAR. (I despise things that the manufacturer controls via the dealership so for $23.99 from Amazon (BAFX Products - Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool - For check engine light & diagnostics - Android ONLY : Amazon.com : Automotive) and $10 for the Carista app (the app is actually free and the Pro version is $10 and is an in-app purchase to make changes to your car) I now have all the control!

    UPDATE 4/30/2015:

I just used my Carista application again since a long time ago. I am very impressed with the new features available with the version updates. I can tell that the developers stay busy making the app even better, rather than resting on their laurels. That's a great attitude for good customer service. One of the new options for my car is to turn off the seat belt warning for the driver (with disclaimers, of course), I did this for my vehicle so I can unbuckle as I turn into my driveway without being nagged. Considering the cost of having a dealer do any of these things (and even some they would flat out refuse to do), this app is such a bargain! I should clarify that the pricing I mentioned in the first write-up was "introductory pricing". Think "Beta Testers" meaning you had to be willing to tolerate some lack of features and less polish for the intro cheaper pricing. The current version is certainly not beta and is very polished and feature rich. The current price has only gone up $10 from the intro release. This app is a steal at $20.

Now, if they would add support for my wife's 2014 Subaru Forester...

does the OBDC work on all cars or just the Prius? I believe the dealers and independents use an OBDC 2 for my ford truck to scan for the fault codes.

The OBDC is supposed to work on any car with OBDC two. That should include all cars since 2000 and some back as far as 1996.

I will try it on wife's Suby today and my 98 Chevy K1500 today and report back.

Certainly rocks, used it yesterday to change the reverse beeper to single beep. I was hoping to change the seat belt warning, but didn't see that option. Will you be adding other features that can be changed with this app? Well worth the $$$$s, saved me a trip to the dealer. I'm holding off on the recall till there's more info on how it affects the car, so far it's been all kinds of imagination and no real data.

Just a small correction: Carista costs $10, not $20 :) But thanks a lot for posting!

And for those who were asking: OBD2 compatibility is required for all cars & light trucks sold in the US since 1996 (and EU since 2001/2004 for petrol/diesel). This allows electronic tools to do emissions-related diagnostics via the standard, well-documented OBD2 protocol, including check for fault codes and show some live engine data (which is what Torque does). However, if you want to do any sort of configuration or diagnostics on non-emissions-related controllers in the car (like ABS, airbag, lighting, door locks, navigation, etc.), then you need to communicate with the vehicle via a custom manufacturer-specific protocol. That's what Carista does for a limited set of manufacturers, including Toyota (most models since 2006... Prius since 2010).

I paid $10 for the app but then when I connected it and began using it it forced me to pay another $10 to upgrade to the "Pro" version.

Really? That should not be possible - the app is free to download (and to use with the generic OBD2 functionality) and then if you want to use the Toyota-specific customizations and diagnostics, you have to pay $9.99 as an in-app purchase to buy the "Pro Package" - just once. But if you did pay twice somehow, I will certainly refund one of your charges. Can you please check your Google Play receipt emails and see what the charges were? Feel free to email me at [email protected] and I'll do a refund if you did get charged twice. Thanks!

you pay extra for the "dealer packages" says it right in the app store but it doesn't say how much.

Carista lets you check your vehicle for problems, as well as clear any existing fault codes. You can also customize your car to your liking! Carista is compatible with standard (i.e. inexpensive) ELM327 Bluetooth adapters that plug into your vehicle's diagnostic OBD2 port. No more paying dealers an hour's rate for 2min worth of work!
    Diagnose:
Carista can check your vehicle's health and report any faults stored its computers. You can also clear any fault codes and reset your "check engine" light, as well as check if you're ready for emissions testing. Carista is compatible with all manufacturers and models, as long as they are OBD2-compatible (all 1996+ cars in the US, all 2001/2004 petrol/diesel cars in the EU, etc.) Unlike other apps, however, Carista also gives you access to advanced manufacturer-specific diagnostics*, including computers like ABS, airbag, navigation, etc. and gives you the ability to reset your airbag light, ABS light, traction control light, etc. for supported models.
    * Manufacturer-specific diagnostics are a paid feature, available on a selection of 2005 and newer models from Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda (VAG), Toyota, Lexus, Scion. OBD2 diagnostics are free.
    Customize:
Carista lets you change the way your car behaves: say you want your headlights to come on automatically when you start the engine; or you want the doors to lock when you start moving; or you want to change the type of beep that the reverse parking sensors make. Yes, Carista can do that (if your vehicle supports it, of course). Customizations are a paid feature, available on a selection of 2005 and newer models from Audi, Lexus, Scion, Seat, Skoda, Toyota and VW. For Lexus, these are called Lexus Personalized Settings (LPS).
    Prevent Damage:
Carista's overheat alarm (a paid feature, 99 cents) allows you to monitor your engine's temperature and react early if it starts to overheat. Yes, most cars have a temperature gauge on the dashboard, but how often do you look at it? Carista can run in the background and notify you with an alarm sound right when the engine temperature starts to reach dangerous levels.
    Hardware Requirement:
You need an ELM327 Bluetooth dongle/adapter in order to use Carista. We do not sell these; they are available from Amazon, eBay and a number of other merchants. See http://www.prizmos.com/carista/hardware/
    No live data or dashboard
Please don't download this app if you're looking for display of real-time data. That's not the purpose of Carista, so please don't rate us negatively for lacking such functionality. Just use Torque for that.
Note: Carista is an OBD scan tool and diagnostics app with added functionality for the consumer. There is no separate Pro version, but there is a paid "Pro Package" within the free app that you can purchase using Google Play In-App Billing. The idea of this app is to provide a simple and efficient way to configure your car to your liking, diagnose your "check engine" or "service engine soon" light, and prevent your engine from overheating. Nothing more, nothing less. Carista is compatible with all vehicles that comply with OBD2 (sometimes misspelled ODB), including Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Mini, Lotus, Jaguar, Rover, Tesla, Chevrolet, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, GMC, Lincoln, Saab, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia. We have advanced functionality available in our Pro Package for a selection of models from VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda (VAG group) and Toyota, Lexus and Scion.

Ah. I strand corrected; only one charge on my account.

I guess I was thinking that I was paying the 9.99 when I downloaded it the first time when I saw your comment about it. I obviously didn't pay the money till I was "in app" use. So sorry for my error in saying the price was $20.

On the other hand, I would have been happy with $20 so that shows you how good the program is!

I said the same thing. I made it in time for the Beta test to be free of charge..but I let paid anyway. I felt the $10 was worth it. Customer support has been quick and thorough.

I changed setting on my Prius...no more reverse beep, no more double button to unlock..woohoo!

and I changed settings on the wife's Rav4...no more double push to unlock the tailgate...woohoo!

As for the OBD interface..I used this:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007P14NPU/
    and it works great.

What else can you change on the Prius besides the reverse beep and double-click to unlock?

Here is a copy from their webpage. I know that it depends on your car's features and options.

Basically everything you would have to go to the stealership to get changed. I did not see seatbelt reminder buzz (I know that is one a lot of people want off). I assume it would be for legal reasons.

Basically each one of the choices on the left picture drills down to another menu like picture 2 and 3. If I remember I will run it tomorrow before work and screen cap each menu.
