I bought a used 2010 Prius in October to replace my 2007 that was totaled when I was rear-ended by a truck. (I was OK, just a little sore for a couple days.)

I took the car in for the software recall, an oil change and a malfunctioning front-passenger seatbelt. The dealer leaned on me to purchase additional services, which I declined to do. I was also unhappy about other aspects of the service call and sent an e-mail to the service manager detailing how I thought the dealership. (Asked for a run through the wash rack, was told I would get it and didn't. Pointed out an empty -- actually defective, the service manager told me in his e-mail -- soap dispenser in the washroom to an employee, who did nothing about the problem. Asked another employee to attend to it after 30 minutes; she did so cheerfully and I mentioned her by name in my e-mail.)

A couple days ago, the dealership sent me an e-mail reminding me of the date and time for an upcoming appointment for the "50,000-mile service."

But I never made any such appointment. The only thing that needs to be done at 50,000 miles was the oil change (which I got done, and their records would show that) and a tire rotation. I don't want to rotate now because I plan on getting new tires soon.

I have to conclude that the dealer decided to make an appointment for me, hoping that I'd just show up and do whatever they told me needed to be done.

I've never had this happen before. Is this common? Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Probably right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, just ignore the notice and forget about it.

There is no such thing as a 50,000 mile check up. The dealer just wants to sell you a lot of service rip offs you don't need. If I were you I would discard it and forget it. If you have changed your oil you have completed your 50,000 mile check up. Just my opinion.

Oh, I canceled the appointment online as soon as I got the e-mail reminder.

The problem is, I haven't found a Toyota dealer in my area that has been better than mediocre. I've trtied five or six, and they all have given me less-than-stellar service.

I had a Saturn for a number of years. The dealerships I dealt with were exemplary when it came to customer service. Toyota dealers should be so good.
