    Money talks, wealth whispers.

I know many rich people who drive ordinary cars. They don't feel they have anything to show. But that's the way of the world I found in my taxi work. The ones at the very top and the ones at the very bottom are the nicest. The social climbers in the middle were always the ones to watch.

So true. My best friend is a multimillionaire. He and I bought our Prius' at the same time. As rich as he is, he is obsessed with his MPG's. The guy is totally unassuming and wouldn't be caught dead in a Ferrari. Now, boats are another story. He changes those like you would change you socks. A story for another time...

The rich live like they are poor, and the poor live like they are rich.

Instead of asking "what can I afford", the better question is "what can I do without".

That is actually a pretty true statement.

Yep, people tend to buy high end cars in order to try to feel rich. The true rich don't need to.

A woman translates what a man drives, into the size of his wallet.

I'd be curious to hear what women have to say too. However, the problem remains that what they intellectually say is their preference could very well be different than what they would actually desire.

Have you ever heard a woman say that they are not attracted to someone and could never date them, and then they end up dating them anyhow? I've had multiple women tell me this, and then end up marrying the person.

Even my opinions can be skewed when I know that my answers are being viewed by a public audience. People aren't likely to confess that they are strongly attracted to superficial things, but marketing shows that we are heavily motivated by them.

    Sad but very true.

I used to drive a top end Mercedes for a billionaire and when I was driving it on my own I'd get so much attention off the other sex that it was untrue! Often I'd be trying to turn right (your left turn) out of a side road and a Range Rover with a foxy blonde would stop and flash me out and they'd give me a little wave or a wink. If it wasn't a Range Rover it would be an attractive woman in a high end car and it happened lots! Twenty minutes later I could try turning out the same road in a lesser car and I'd be there for 10 minutes eventually having to force my way out.

But does a flash car just attract the wrong sort of woman or is that just an excuse I'm making lol? I do recall in the taxi job that the Prius would attract a lot of attention from more women than men, or should I say women would ask more questions about the car and be more receptive for what it stood for.

So maybe the Merc attracts the shallow, trophy wife types and the Prius attracts the 'keepers'.

But maybe this works in other ways too. A couple years ago sitting at the lights with a mate in his Bentley Convertible with the top down when someone in a passing van coming towards us slowed down nearly stopped besides us and the driver then made some offensive, homophobic comment before driving off at speed! My friend and I just looked at each other stunned!?! It's a funny old world.o_O

Yeah, I can't say I would have been interested in either choice if those were the only two when I was dating. But, there are many cars that would dictate not being attracted to someone, I have to be honest! Depending on how attached they were to that car. I didn't like the car my now other half drove, but I had dated him for a few months (he had rental cars during that time because he was in another town) so I tolerated it for barely a month and he bought a new car. :D But, it wasn't a Ferrari. So, perhaps I was entering the practical phase of my life! For the record, he hates the Prius, but it isn't going anywhere! A Prius is such a common sight in Atlanta that I think people have moved past the fascination phase...except when fuel prices are high. I get a lot of questions when I am at the gas station. The car I see people the most fascinated with is the Tesla. There are a lot in Atlanta and I always see people looking at them in parking lots and questioning their owners.

I am a girl that has a huge appreciation of nice cars because of my Dad, so I usually knew what a guy drove before I dated him. Yes, I did turn some down based on what they drove. I know it is selfish and ridiculous, but it is the truth. I think what car someone drives definitely tells a story. How well they take care of it probably does too.

I wonder what trash heap Bill Gates drove before he became the worlds richest man. Food for thought, eh?

He is partial to Lexus. He drove the same one for years although I'm not sure what he drives today.

As it turns out, his first car was a Porsche. I guess the sucker's been rich all his life.

I feel sorry for the guys that buy a messed up old BMW just to look cool and proceed to go broke trying to keep the thing running. I tell them that any brand new car is impressive for a few years, dump the aging luxury car and get something reliable. Also if you overspend on your car there is no money left to take a girl out which is more important than getting a girl to look at you as you drive by.

Being "of a certain age", men my age can afford expensive cars now. I admit that a nice sports car does catch my attention, but often the man driving it does not. More often, the combination screams mid-life crisis. There are some vehicles that are only off-putting, the jacked-up giant pickup being the worst. Other than that, I'm thinking that the car doesn't really matter to me. Just putting in some female 2 cents.

Anything out of Europe, be ready to open your wallet up in repairs. I've been in car repair for over 20yrs., and those thing are just ridiculous as far as lack of reliability, and replacement part prices. Example, I once had to replace a A/C line on this one Benz. ,and the darn hose was $765 bucks, needless to say, I had a hose made up for $65 to replace it. It's just stupid stuff like that , that makes me cringe when I see a Benz,Porsche ,BMW, or any of the like.

Maybe you should put "Any prestige car out of Europe" :)

I can think of many cars we get that are cheap to fix. Saying that, my old Jeep cost a fortune in parts, though I could get them off ebay for about 40% the UK cost, even including shipping and fees. Maybe it's just certain dealers or manufacturers who like to add premium to parts?

Many BMW parts are cheaper here, though the more the spec and cost of the BMW the higher the cost of parts. BMW is not just a prestige make here. You can buy them cheaper than the Prius.

This was from AOL UK. In the UK the prius is bigger and nicer than many of the other odd looking cars they have over there.

Here in the states, no way. Women prefer a man with a truck over a prius.
