Prius is not the king anymore

    What was your electrical cost for the plug in ? that number is definitely impressive.

    So your burning coal or natural gas , mixed in with a little nuke ???

    For that tank I really don't know. 11 cents per kw about 2.8 kw per charge. I'm getting about 63% EV to 37 HV for 16,320 miles

    So it's hard to say on average, how much you pay for charging in any given month.

    I was not calculating anything but let's say you drive 10000 miles per year. That's around $755 in gas. In any other car doing 25 MPG the same amount of miles per year would be around $1400. That means you saved around $745 per year.

    Now, suppose you pay $27000 for your Prius in a loan at 0% in 72 months. That's $375 per month + $62 (755/12)= $437 per month. In another hand you paid $23000 for the second car, that's with the same 0% deal around $319 per month + $117 that's $436. So, financially driving a 25 MPG ($23000) car 10000 miles per year is as cheaper as driving a Prius.

    That's the way I see it. You pay a lot less per year for Honda Fit 38 MPG $18000.

    So a New Prius is anything but a cheap drive.

    I charge every day at least once, sometimes twice, on a rare occasion three times. maybe an average of 40 charges a month but most charges are not full charges, usually 1-3 miles of EV left. Some guys keep track of every charge but I don't bother, I have the total kw used since new as recorded by car.

    Gas and electric combined I'm averaging 91.16 MPGe since new.

    True, but a lot worse than driving a Honda Fit if we are talking about saving money ;)

    I see your point about the cost of owning a newer Prius to owning a Honda Fit.
    The only way someone can really feel good about buying a new Prius, if they pay cash for it.
    And still have a million left over in their bank account.
    I would say that is not is not the norm for most new Prius owners.

    the bottom line is that the only difference between us Prius owners and those buying the MB in the article is the size of our Pockets ;) It isn't how much we save driving these cars.

    rate 1 USD = 0.8 Euros

    Here in Portugal a new Prius 3Gen is priced from...27k euros...[33750USD]
    And a new Prius PHEV starting at...38k euros... (no rebate here)...[47500USD]

    We pay gas averaging 1.5euros/liter [5.67USD per gal]

    By the way, E250bluetec here starts at 59k euros...[73750USD]

    So CT, what part of the US?
    There is rolling slight hill here in the piedmont of NC,seems ideal for getting the best out of my Prius, as far as mpg.

    Yep, oh yea, flat country there for sure.
    So what would be the best deal for a person trying to be economical ?
    I still say a pre owned Prius that has been maintained.
    Or a Honda Fit, new or used. They may be too small for most people.
    The Honda hybrids seem to have short battery life.

    I think bottom line, the Prius has continued to go up in price , except for the Prius C.
    It may be too small for most people. So Honda may be smart in some ways, offering the Fit at a reasonable price. What does Toyota have new at a reasonable price?

    Type of Fuel cost Mercedes 20 % more expensive .... And Mercedes Cost $ 30,000.00 more

    I would say on average it adds about 30-45 dollars a month to charge. Just a guess.
    And I forgot, we have hydro and some coal and a little wind.

    A preowned Prius is a good option. But they are hard to find and expensive. The problem with used cars is that you don't pay on front but you could be paying later in repairs.

    If the Prius is still classified as a economical car, then the MB is in another class, has always been. So as someone said before , we are truly comparing apples to oranges.
    But apparently some of the high end Prius don't seem to be economical anymore.
    The Prius in the comparison was a Prius 5, not for sure what the base price is, but must be up there, say compaired to a Prius C.
