It seems like there's plenty of evidence posted in this forum. They can't all be imagining it. Most of the members here are very attuned to their cars. Granted not everyone, but with the general lack of power the car has to begin with, reducing it even further would be obvious to most.

Yeah. Hard evidence like 0 to 60 times, 40 to 60 max acceleration times, 1/4 mile times, etc....

I'm beginning to think some hybrid lovers only see performance measured in MPGs and nothing else

I drive a V w/ the 17's, and I had the update done 2 days after toyota posted it.

WOW DID IT SUCK. Everything that was posted here has been my experience. Mid 30's, where I used to get high 40's. Crap acceleration, the works. A slow, POS turd with shit mpg. I could get out an push it faster. One thing I definitely noticed is that the fan to cool the unit turns on almost instantly now. Wife wondered Wth was the noise.

However -- the car is driving a lot more normal now. (I drive about a tank/week), and today I just filled the tank and it was at 46, which is close to what I normally get. The wife used to get 55+ (she drives slow), and I could get 60+ if I took it easy going slow on the freeway. I do not think we'll be seeing 55+ w/ casual driving anymore with this update...

I'll keep tabs on it, but I think that they changed how the system learns -- and it is still conservative on the "power" setting -- still "snappy", but it definitely not as much as it used to be, and it is definitely not placebo.

If the car drove like it did right after the software update when I bought the car -- I would NOT have bought it. Maybe this is toyota trying to get us to buy the G4?

No way. If Toyota PO'd all (most of) their G3 owners, what are the chances they'll buy a G4 and do it all over again?

My wife is thinking a RX450H :) Is the CT200 much stronger accelerating than the original 3rd Gen Prius?

I do not know -- apple did it with an OS update to 1st gen iphones (made them practically unusable), and people went screaming and tripping over themselves to buy gen 2's...

I must clarify -- the car is a TON better now than it was when I had the update done. Still not back to where it was, more like 85/90% there. At this point -- I think the only people who are going to notice are those on PC. My aunt is the type of person who is not going to notice anything at all, which is probably representative of the general population. Even in it's crappy state, it still better than a gen 2 though, as I can at least still make it up the very steep hill nearby when it snows out,.

A lot of generalization going on in this post (which are just my casual observations), but the reason why I think Toyota decided to do the update?

Piss off 5,000 people, or replace inverters for 600,000 people (or however many they calculated would fail before warranties ran out)?

Inverters don't bitch on the internet to anyone who will listen, people do.

All the Lexus hybrids are tuned for power, not mileage. The Prius is tuned for mileage. So yes, I would expect the "Lexus Prius" to be peppier. Though I haven't tried driving one. The local Lexus dealer would just love to get me in one for a test drive I expect. But I must be getting old, as I don't care about power any more. Pearl S does just fine even on mountain pass'.

Quick search shows they have the same 0-60 time.

And here in the UK there's only £100 difference between a base Prius and a base CT200h. One is a Toyota, the other a Lexus :sneaky:

Only small percentage of PC members detected the difference. I would say that translates to 0.1% of the prius owner population (a wild guess, didn't do any calculations).

Just a quick thought/question. Do you suppose that the update also fixed the mileage computer being off by 2 to 4 mpg to the positive? In other words it may have read 50 mpg but by calculating fuel used at next fill-up it was really getting 46 mpg. Maybe?

Drove it today to work and while I see a different behavior in the Hybrid System Display the car works like before the update.

If I could have had the hardware replaced instead of this software update I would have got it. But it's what it's. I have read already one case in this forum where the Prius failed in a highway and even when he could get to the side not causing an accident the whole idea of this happening to me scares me more than a zombie.

It very well could be a small number of owners that detect the reported decrease in power because most drivers never push the car hard enough to notice.

That being said, it wouldn't take much to put the issue on the news media's radar.

Someone here must make some quantitative measures of performance prior to getting the recall and then followup afterwards!
