One thing that comes to mind to hopefully help the OP. The one thing I've seen happen over and over again regarding the Gen II Prius is that they go quick. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone post on here for advice regarding a certain car (or two) and before you know it, they're gone. Just something to remember.

Noted and I've seen this in the short amount of time I've been seriously looking for a car. When I'm about to purchase I hope no one minds if I share a link to get opinions.

    Thanks again

I'm having a good ownership experience with minimally-driven Gen II. When I bought it, I was commuting daily but for the past few years, it's been closer to 2k miles/year. It doesn't make sense, on paper, to keep it but I can't bring myself to part with it. The original 12v battery still managed to last about 6 years and with the replacement, driving it ~30 mins every week and a half or so seems to be keeping the 12v charged fine. I think as long as the 12v battery is in good shape and the car isn't left to sit too long at a time, it seems to do fine.

Mine served as the dog car for a few years--it does so nicely. With the back seats folded flat, there's plenty of space for them to walk around or lie down. I used a barrier behind the front seats. I learned to press the window lock when the dogs were in back--they like to stand on the window buttons and could let themselves out if I wasn't paying attention.

Good luck with the Prius hunt.

As other posts have indicated above, please ensure touring model is indeed a touring o_O . Seller may claim otherwise but 16" tire and slightly bigger spoiler (which you will notice after couple of times on looking carefully) are the key.

The list of ads on ebay or local CL with claims of touring is indeed sad.

I preferred opting for Gen II over Gen III wrt overall $$ and drive. Good luck in your hunt.

    Regards,
    Kishore

I test drove two cars on Saturday. First was a 2008 Touring ($12,800) that the dealer just got in. I guess they didn't have time to clean it, very dirt on the inside. Only went for a short ride so couldn't get a "feeling" for the car. The sales rep was horrible. He kept saying "I don't know how we have this car, it shouldn't be here after today because it will get sold! If you aren't the one buying it today, someone else will.". I admire the effort (I'm a sales manager) but it was cheesy and somewhat annoying.

I also test drove a 2011 Lexus ct200. It was really nice and a different experience. No sales guy riding shotgun, zero pressure, and he actually said either a Prius or CT would be a great choice...just get what you like. I have to take more test drives and figure out what's best for me since I'll be driving my next car until it stops working. Just wanted to give everyone an update...

    Cheers,

    Z

I read that Consumer Reports prefers the Prius to the CT. They said the power train feels more encumbered in the CT and the reduced fuel economy is notable. I don't think they were impressed with the use of space either.

You may want to include a third-gen Prius in your investigation as well.

You've gotta love ridiculous sales techniques. It's amazing how strategies differ from one dealership to the next.

Tanglefoot: Could not agree more! I'm going for round 2 of test drives (08 prius, 10 prius, and CT) this weekend. Hopefully I'll make up my mind by round 4. I do not want to get anywhere near Rocky vs Drago (15 rounds).

    I must break you...

Test drove this an hour ago. Not sure why but I'm trying to find a reason not to like these cars but I can't. Every time I test drive one I go back to my childhood and feel like I'm in a go-kart, it's a lot of fun. Yes mileage is high but the car was smooth. Also, in my mind I cant justify paying $20,000 + for a car (Lexus ct200).

I looked at carfax (on website) and also put VIN # in on Toyota website. Is this a good deal? I did notice it did not have Navigation, but that's not a very big deal to me.

Going back Saturday to talk numbers. I tried to do it after the test drive but the sales associate said he'll only talk numbers when I'm ready to buy since he can get more of a discount from the manager. Didn't like that but oh well.

Thanks again for all the help!

Notice the SRS warning light is on, in the photo that shows the speedometer (the light that shows a seated figure and a round ball.) If that light remains on, that is a problem.

No lights were on during the 20 min highway drive. I did notice a small scratch on the right hub cab. I was trying to look for anything to get that price down.

    Pics show the 15"wheels (6-spoke and I don't think they're touring(?))

WillD: I think we had this convo earlier. I don't think it's a "touring" either. My brother-in law has a 07 touring in CA and is has larger wheels, leather, and navigation. I thought touring had to have navigation. Once again navigation isn't a big deal but leather is a must. It's been difficult to find a used Prius (07-09) with leather in WI.

Dog hair on cloth seats would drive me insane.

Read post 11 again. The photo in your link is NOT a Touring. There at least was a thread that did a good job illustrating the differences. Wheels can be changed easily. The spoiler can be changed. Changing the suspension is not an easy or cheap job.

For 2007 Package 6 has everything, including leather same package for the Touring.
Package 5 has nav, same package for the Touring.
Package 4 has HID headlights as does Touring Package 3.
Package 3 has the HomeLink mirror & 6 CD player.
Package 2 doesn't have the mirror & CD player above. Same for Touring.
Package 1 is a fleet vehicle that does not have Vehicle Stability Control. Same for Touring.

All Touring have HID headlights and fog lights.

My advice is to figure out what the used car has then search for a market price.

Package 3 has the HomeLink mirror & 6 CD player. Add leather and this seems about correct. I'll double check Saturday.

    Worth a test drive.
