When working on that area, *carefully* remove the tiny metal retainer clips that your stock squawker screws into. DO NOT EVER drop this tiny piece inside the dash or you will never see it again.

I want the Polk Audio DXI... the only thing is the rears from polk are rated at 45 Watts RMS and the amp puts out at least 75watts RMS... did I make the right choice by going with the kicker components 100 watts RMS or would the Polk Audio DXi been alright?

Either set will be fine. The amp is "rated" at 75 wrms but it will never put out that much power in a steady fashion, since music material is dynamic. It will probably peak at 50 watts once in a while.

You should be fine with either. I also like the Polks. Nice speakers and usually on sale for great prices. I ran 6 1/2 DXi's on an 80w x 4 amp for years and never had an issue. I've read it's better to be overpowered then under and you won't be that much over, plus you can tweek the amp gain.
Are you still using the PPI 800.4? I think I read it runs about 130w x 4 but as JGI stated, it's probably not really that high.
    Either config should work fine.

Changed to the Phantom 900.5 , it can take 2/4 channel and add a subwoofer out and easier/cheaper to add a subwoofer later...so one more time 45 watt RMS Polk DXi 5.25's going in the rear with 75 watt RMS going to them - as long as the gain is turned down should be okay? Also am I going to hear much of a difference by putting the 5.25's back their instead of the 6.5's? 6.5's are shallowmount and the 5.25's aren't... also they are $30 cheaper right now...

5.25 coaxials (45 watt RMS) or 6.5 coaxials (60 watts RMS) in the rear?

If you wait and keep watching, a couple times a year Crutchfield runs a sale on Polks, buy one get the second half off.
If you can wait, I think you should get 6 1/2's since the rear is such a big area to fill. Also with more shallow speakers, you won't have any issues with the windows.
I've done smaller speakers in other cars and was disappointed but the money was spent.

+1 Chris.. pick the 6.5's front and rear. Always go with the bigger drivers whenever you can. they will hit lower and usually have higher power handling.

The hatchback is always a great car for a system with a sub. Your choice of box really depends on what you want out of the sub and what the sub specs call for.
If you like boomy, loud bass, any properly tuned vented box will work as long as it's right for the sub. If you like kick drums, rock, dance, country or anything that doesn't have to shake the car, a nice sealed box will work and usually will be smaller than vented.

I like to feel it, so to get a little more volume out of a single sub, I built a ported box and love it but sometimes it seems like a little too much boom.
.. Still love it tho ;-)
