Maybe you're so used to seeing thin as unhealthy as all your reference points are for erm, larger people. This is a jab at Americans all being fat as the same applies over here. All we have to do is watch a tv show from the early 1970's and you'll see that everyone then was unhealthy as you describe it. But were they? That was a time before processed foods and all the other rubbish put in food for whatever reason. And maybe we just ate less then too. When friends have come back from the US they all tell of the massive portions you all have. Why? Did you eat like that in the 60's and 70's? If not, why now?

Wow, this thread did get very off-topic with diet. I don't know, maybe being a vegan or vegetarian may be healthier, but I know plenty of overweight vegetarians so maybe not so much. All you have to do is look at the World Records for longest living people and you will probably see that most had diets that were far from what we consider healthiest now. So, perhaps living longest is not linked to diet entirely, but to what brings you happiness. But, I am sure that neither the Prius or the Ferrari were the cars of choice for those people either. Their choice of transportation probably happened to be their feet, or a bicycle. :)

I was in the US during that decade, and I can witness that the food was already heavily processed, salted, and stuffed with fat and sugar.

IIRC, Americans have been growing their waistlines steadily since sometime after the last world war. The car has a lot to do with it, followed closely by a drop in exercise and outdoor activity. The real innovation of the turn of the century was making obese kids commonplace. Did you know that gym is an elected class in early school education in the US ?

Yea, but here's a study of the Vegan lifestyle. Health effects of vegan diets It shows a trend in deficiencies without fortified foods. We have tons of laws now that require food to be fortified with supplements so it's transparent to the person seeking to go on the diet. A vegan 100 years ago would have severe deficiencies without purposely seeking out foods rich in certain vitamins, and adhering to a strict dietary regiment. Genetically we need these certain vitamins, they are a neccessity.

Being thin is not a problem. I'm lean, and usually stay between 8-12% body fat. But i also have muscle mass too. What i was referring to was being too scrawny, being thin and without any muscle, like you're deficient, just a step away from being emaciated. Like you're literally just skin bones and organs, not much else. To me, that's not what i would consider "healthy". You can be lean and skinny, but you shouldn't look like a cocaine addict where your body is just eating away at itself including all the muscle.

Also, i consider bread a processed food. Paleo is before the dawn of mass agriculture, which is before recorded history.

Meaning you are guessing at the diet. *Evidence* suggests that humans in that era were scavengers, so your diet should be what I would call a "hyena diet." I hope you like gnawing on rotting bones.

Yes on foraging, not necessarily scavenging. I don't know about rotting bones. You're dealing in extremes and absolutes here. Life is not like that, it's a bit of a mix, and in desperation one might eat roadkill, even a vegan. Meat at best wasn't an everyday thing either, it was a once in a while thing. And people most likely hunted in packs as shown by cave drawings, so they did hunt animals. Obviously i don't have a time machine so nothing is certainly proven. Just based on evidence left behind over thousands of years. Even among paleo, milk is still debated. I still drink whole milk, but some purists say it wasn't part of the diet.

Nutritionists do have a firm grasp on what's harmful to our bodies, and what our bodies need to be considered "healthy". Nearly all diets(refferring to what people eat, not to lose weight) around the world are focused on mass produced and cost effective ingredients as part of their staple. Most nutritionists say the best healthy diets all focus on whole natural foods, which are pretty much what i eat, nothing processed. I think that's what our bodies are genetically designed for, regardless of whether anyone thinks that's what cavemen ate.

I liked Samantha's honest admission that she hardly understands her own kind. A girl I once dated said her reason for dating the previous boy was that he had a cool truck, (Ford Lightning) and wanted to know what that was like (dating cool truck guy).

Some women know what they want, and others are less certain, but all have a primal attraction that may not be based on rational criteria. In general, women are attracted to confident and fun alpha types with access to more resources.

As a guy, I have a primal attraction to beautiful and sexy women, regardless of income or social class.

Even in the age of equality, where women are expected to earn a wage just like men, there is still a primitive attraction that has not caught up to modern living. A woman being attracted to wealth and power is no less superficial than a man being attracted to beauty. These "superficial" attributes are not superficial. They are important considerations in mate selection so long as they do not become the sole criteria.

One other thing about women; they gravitate towards security. Ferrari guy projects the image that he is a womanizer, and won't be fiercely loyal to a particular woman. Prius guy comes across as the safer bet.

Concerning animals as food; many more animals have been given the opportunity to live what I imagine is a "happy" life due to the fact that they are raised and consumed as food. What makes a happy cow? A constant source of food and protection from harassment by predators.

While I'm sure there is much room for improvement in reducing cruelty in the process of producing food, I find no natural or ethical objection to animals as a source of food. Animals don't have dreams for their future, and they aren't horrified by the process they are in.

The real problem with American's weight problem is that they are corn-fed. Everything has high fructose corn syrup in it. People aren't fat because of an Atkins diet, they are fat because of the crazy amount of carbs they are consuming.

Having traveled to England, Scotland and Ireland several times - I can categorically state that I like women from the Isles. And I don't think they care so much about the car a person drives vs. the attitude a fellow carries.

Another data point; I asked my wife what she thought about Prius man vs Ferrari man. She assumed the Ferrari man would be self-centered and older, and therefore would be more likely attracted to the younger Prius man.

That said, she says that there is nothing about the Prius that increases attraction, and that most any other vehicle would add more attraction to a man than the Prius. The top car for her would be a Subaru. She imagines the man driving that to be rugged, active, capable, and practical.

I met my wife driving an Acura TSX (Euro Accord), but as it happens, my previous car was a Subaru Legacy.

When my future wife met me, I was driving a 1989 Ford Probe GT turbo. She told me that she thought all Probe drivers were girls. My Probe was heavily modified and was pushing nearly 270 hp to the wheels. I personally wouldn't have considered it a girl's car.

Women like guys with Prius because they can drag us to IKEA and we'll have enough room to haul their stuff. The Ferrari won't have the space for all that junk.

You'd be surprised at all the rich people who drive Prii . Why do you suppose they're rich ?

Any of a multitude of reasons. Hollywood success, for example.

Trump and the Koch brothers aside, rich people *are* allowed to have social consciences.

I think bzzap was looking for this answer :). -

Rich people know how to save money (on gas). And invest with the money they save/make. (Of course, I'm just speaking generally. Not all cases)

I'm pretty sure very rich people drive their Prius around daily, but have a nicer car sitting in the garage.

    SPH-D710 ?

Japanese are the longest living, and since they are Japanese, they more than likely drive prii over other cars. So go figure :)
