Just got my update done today just called and asked about it cause I never received a letter. I haven't noticed a difference yet but then again I just drive her normal like I always do. I got the update cause I want to do all I can to keep her running good at least until she is paid off in 5 years by then I'll be ready for whatever gen is out by then

Maybe so but isn't one of the primary purposes of this forum is for technically competent members to help explain these types of details to the others.

Sounds like someone has been hitting the Toyota koolaid bottle a little too hard ;)

There were several on here that held off on the ASB Brake Transition update for this very same reason. They wanted to be sure they fully understood the affects of the update.

    I disagree.

First of all, there are a lot of engineers and other technical savvy genius's that frequent this site, understanding of technical minutia seems to be a trait of many Prius owners. I would expect you'd have plenty of people that would understand the nomenclature, I'd also suspect they could dumb it down for us laymen if needed.

Really, unless Toyota has something to hide with this update what is wrong with full disclosure whether the majority understands the minutia or not?
Right now as it stands, we aren't being told ANYTHING specific about what this software change is affecting or how. IMO really not acceptable.

Further speculation would suggest that "less stress" on a certain set of transistors, would have to be created by limiting some level of performance or acceleration.....but since Toyota isn't saying, we really don't know.

As far as choice? Toyota is presenting this as a "Safety Recall" and using language that does outline an extreme and rare situation in which the vehicle could shut down unexpectedly. They are contacting one way or another every Prius owner affected. In my opinion this leaves little choice. Sure, you could simply choose NOT to do it, and try to explain why it hasn't been done at every vehicle service interval done at the dealership, BUT also if you were to have the rare but extreme failure happen, along with some degree of personal injury or property damage? Woe be unto you, if you ignored the Safety Recall.

This means to me, that you have it done. To protect the warranty as well as potentially protect yourself. There really is no "choice".

Nowhere in the letter does it say the update has to be done except for Kalifornia owners. It says nothing about future warranty either. I don't drink Koolaid ;)

My first 36 miles od city driving after the recall...

52.2 MPG... Sorry but I don't notice any difference...

Like I said before the only changes that I see are in this screen, you can see in the picture how the line between the EV and ECO zone are missing, also the ECO icon is off when the car is not moving or in Parking. Before it was always on unless the acceleration reached the PWR zone.

I don't think the Eco light was ever on while I wasn't in motion. This is on my 2010,though. I realize that a number of changes were made once the 2012+ models came out.

Wow...I don't see why a software update of any kind would have to remove the line on the HSI. That indicator is the one I use the most, and I use it because of that line. That line makes it easier to modulate your speed and acceleration, sometimes looking ahead I can predict or speculate as to how much momentum or speed I need to maintain a safe speed, while staying in the EV potential zone.

Tell me it's just a fluke and that the update doesn't change the HSI graphics.

I've noticed when your stopped the line goes away but once you start accelerating it comes back

Thanks....that's a lot better, I thought it was for some reason permanently removed....which would be bad. That HSI indicator is really the only screen I use.

It is funny to me what you do not pay attention to after having a car for some time. After the discussions concerning the center line on the HSI screen, I watched mine coming home today, which I have never done.

What I saw was the line was off except when in D. I have had not had the Booster software update yet.

For some reason, I can't really explain, I want my letter from Toyota.
I guess some owners in Australia have begun to get them. - But I don't want to wait any longer on the update.

I'm taking my Prius in this weekend for the update.

So do you think Toyota's notification procedure is sophisticated enough to know who has already had the update and leave them off the mailing list?

Because dang it....I want my notification letter...bought me a frame....gonna frame it....

Still waiting on my letter. I will probably wait until I get my letter before having the update. I just do not have another reason to take my car to the dealership before then.
