Successfully installed new amp with existing HU and no hiss

    When I plug in my iPod to the amp, I don't get a hiss. Direct to amp (i.e. using the RCA cables bypassing the stereo).

    Ok. Installed ground loop filter. Didn't help.

    ground loop 'filters' will remove hum, not hiss. You have a gain issue. For some reason, either the voltage going into the amp is too small, or the voltage the amp is expecting on its imputs is too high. Since the ipod input has no hiss, I suspect there is insufficient voltage getting into the amp from the head unit. If you are using the speaker outputs (which you likely are as there is no line out), there should be no problem.Hook a speaker up to the 'inputs' to the amp, and see if if will play at a reasonable volume. If it won't, that is your problem.
