i think this was the first toyota to be sold in the US that came so crappy, but i think toyota intended people who used it as taxis will only buy the 1 and the normal people will buy the 2, but some of us, including me went for the cheaper version.

on my 2004 toyota rav4, i had stock steering wheel controls which at that time, most cars didnt have stock.

but whatever, they did what they wanted.

In Canada, a digital clock and cruise control were dealer-installed accessories (yup, no factory option package included a clock). The bonus is that Toyota did include an AM/FM/CD audio unit when most of the competitors were still offering cassette with dealer-installed CD players when the Gen 8 came out in 1998.

The VE Package includes: full wheel covers, bodyside mouldings, splash guards and A/C

The Touring Package includes: Uprated 185/65R14 wheels, full wheel covers, tilt steering wheel, colour-keyed bodyside mouldings, rear spoiler, side skirts, mirrors and door handles, 2 additional speakers (for total of 4), Black on White instrument gauges, Tachometer, A/C, outside temperature gauge.

There were 3 different cloth fabric seating depending on whether you choose the Corolla VE (unwoven), CE (plain woven) or LE (woven with pattern and includes fabric covered front armrest).

Could be worse. A 1997 Corolla SD had half vinyl/half cloth seats, no interior trunk release and a "radio prep kit" which means it had 2 speakers and a retractable A-pillar antenna. Front stabiliser bar only came on the DX 1.8.

Here's the excerpt from the brochure (The base model info is located at the back lol)

It's amazing how far the compact cars have come when you look at what the new 2014 Corolla offers.

P.S. sorry decibel08 for the thread hijack.

yeah, it's kinda funny looking back at "options" that were on older cars. I remember when A/C was $$$$$$.

I just bought an used prius c, and this was the first thing I wanted to fix. So I bought a 30" by 1/2" Elmer ' foam board at Michaels crafts, black duct tape, black cord, 2 $4 door mats and a pack of 3 damage free clear plastic mini hooks. I measured out the space and cut the foam board. I found that cutting them in half allowed me to fit them in the space where I can open it up. I used the black duct tape around the borders and on one side of the center seam to hold it together. Then I cut the floor mat and glued it to the top. I later punched a hole in the edges and strung a cord through it where it's tied to the plastic hooks I've attached to the car. It looks OK and the pieces only cost $30. Hopefully the photos will upload ok.

Do you guys really like the cover that much? I had it for a few days but have since then removed it. What are you guys keeping in your trunk that is so expensive is must be hidden?

I got a C1 and one of the first modifications I did was to tint the rear windows (can't tint the front in California). I didn't go for the Limo, but I think I went 2 shades lighter, it's still plenty dark and it's very difficult to see through from the outside. Only downside obviously is backing up at night, but you get used to it.

That's how things were with my Jetta. Backing up at night sucked, and I felt like I was essentially blind. But on the bright side, when it was dark outside and people's headlights were hitting my window it wouldn't bother me. I completely forgot about how much of a blessing that was until now with my Prius C not having tint.

    I want tint NAO!!! :(

A A Martin, This is one of the best do it yourself projects I have seen on this forum. It is inexpensive, looks good and does the job. Great work!
