I have to call both DMV and AAA in the morning to try to figure this out. :/ DMV told me it definitely should not take 7-10 days to get into the system.

The best part is that if I were to get pulled over right now (god forbid), my plates aren't in the system...really hoping not to have to explain that to a cop. The lady at AAA actually had the audacity to tell me that I should just explain to him that its processing and he will be OK with it...

+1. Look at my graph above. It's been a real roller-coaster ride this last month. My own predictions for Doomsday - carefully qualified, of course :) - ranged from mid-June to "any day now".

Given the information available at any particular time, a buyer might reasonably have decided to grab a stickered vehicle rather than take chances.

Give Dianne credit for her willingness to share her perspective and information. For example, her post here was the first on the web to announce DMV's suspension of the dealer program. If she gets commercial visibility in return, it's well-earned.

I feel your pain for AAA to drop the ball. I hope this can be sorted out in time.

they're still pointing the finger at each other...AAA insists they have to send everything to a DMV auditor that takes 7-10 business days to complete the records. DMV says they don't know how the plate and registration could have been issued without a record being in the system.

in the meanwhile, i'm supposed to drive around with a plate and registration card that according to the state of CA doesn't exist...

as long as i end up getting the sticker, i don't mind the delay...what annoys me is that if the record doesn't end up in the system by the time they start processing my form, i completely wasted the $20 to overnight it. i might as well have taken the $20 bill and set it on fire...

If you were to get stopped, the paper copy of the registration would be all you would have to present to the officer, along with proof of insurance and your license, of course. If the officer then ran the registration, even if it didn't appear in the system, you wouldn't be expected to know that. As far as you are concerned, once you have that paperwork, you are good to go. However, it doesn't reflect well on the Auto Club to have this sort of mix up. They enter the info into the DMV program on their computer. That system will even tell them if it is too soon to enter a renewal registration. So maybe it has something to do with your car coming from out of state. That's all I can come up with. Please keep us posted. Remember, you get one phone call from the pokey! :p

Why/how did AAA handle your registration? When I purchased my new PiP from out-of-state, I wanted to go to AAA too to process the registration, but they stated that they do not handle registration for new cars, only used cars, so I ended up having to go through the DMV.

I wonder if DMV would let you bring the plates, sticker and registration to a DMV office and they could do whatever the auditor does and enter it into their system.(Or confiscate the plates. So call first!)

that is one thing that they actually did mention at AAA...that there's a different procedure since i came in from out of state (vs if i had bought the car from someone else in CA, i guess?) either way, they said (AAA) that they were hoping it would be done today, that the auditor said she is processing the work from 3/31.

interestingly, two separate people i spoke with at the DMV told me they were currently working on HOV sticker apps from March 19th...not sure how much validity that has. i thought we had seen people who sent in after that who had gotten stickers already?

i went to AAA because the DMV itself was closed last monday, and AAA gave me the plates that day so i could get the sticker application in the mail overnight...i didn't purchase the car from out of state, i moved into the state with it. it was previously registered in PA.

ON the subject of new *green* stickers: reposting from a different board, thanks to Heather S:
Your weekly CA green sticker bill update:
AB2013 failed in third reading due to urgency clause (needing 2/3 vote). 43 ayes, 5 noes, 31 nvr
My thoughts: nvr = meaning they were not there OR they wanted to stay out of it, ahem ... there is a motion to reconsider.

Every single dealership who had cars that were entitled to HOV stickers could have done this.
It was up to them. To make life easier for you as a customer way back in the fall ... welll before this "out of stickers" issue was hot news.
I feel as if you're saying we, as dealerships, did something wrong by trying to provide a better customer experience. What the hell could be better than being able to leave here or any other caring dealership, after spending $30-40K, and getting into the carpool lane weeks faster, and in most cases, immediately?

I, for one, appreciated not having to do anything and had the stickers show up in my mailbox 2 days or so after I bought the car.

And now that I'm moving back to CA, I can actually use them!

<<<Not everyone is lucky to run into a dealership that does everything for us or help us do less like that was stated above. But making the assumption (generalizing we as dealerships as a whole entity) that all the dealerships in CA have this same mindset is plain ignorance. Some other dealership in the Bay Area which will not be named tried to charged us +$350 msrp for a car that was already stickered. I highly doubt that they will even file the CARB for me. As you mentioned. >>>

My exact point. You do not just RUN INTO a dealership.
You know there's a problem. You actively seek one out with HOV stickers assigned to their inventory. In my case, it's no "accident" that folks are flying down here to see me from the Bay Area and driving in from the Valley and hurrying in after work from LA. I've been at the airport pickup up folks on Saturday and Sunday mornings in Long Beach and LAX. That Jet Blue flight at 7:25am Saturday was a killer, LOL ... but those of us who give a rat's arse will do everything we can for our clients to get what they want and need to live a better life. An early start on their day, a green HOV sticker, a jump on their state $1500 check when the cash is running dry... all of these things matter to YOU so they matter to me! :)

    Dianne,
You continue to provide extraordinary service and an easy, pleasant buying experience to your customers. As for the naysayers, "illegitimi non carborundum!"

Got the stickers in the mail today, recap.
After the ban on dealership applying for HOV stickers it took only 1.5 week from when the application reached the DMV and getting the sticker.

    - 3/27 mailed application over night
    - 3/28 application reached DMV
    - 4/3 Called in and confirmed processing
    - 4/4 check was cashed
    - 4/ 8 received stickers : EH396xx (it said issued on 03/29)

On 4/7 ARB posted that 38,478 have been issued so far so the sticker ID is at least 1100 off from the actual sticker count. Which means there will be stickers up to EH41100 at the minimum if they run sequentially.

    @ Diane
I don't think anyone here is arguing about your level of service, customer satisfaction and etc.. As I pointed out earlier, not everyone is lucky to come across a dealership that would go an extra mile. I meant that as a compliment, so please take it as such. We might have even got it from Carson ourselves if we were local or had extra cash + time to fly, S/H + etc..

The main point that we were discussing with other forum members in the first place was about dealerships clogging up a bottle neck on HOV sticker applications for PiP owners that applied directly themselves. Since the DMV banned the dealerships from doing so, it obviously took way less time from when the application was sent in and getting the sticker. And we have numbers to prove. This is good news all around for other forum members that are still waiting for theirs. And it looks like anymore soon-to-be PiP owners in the next few weeks are very likely to make it too without having to get an already HOV stickered PiP from the dealers.

    Cheers!

just got a call from AAA, my record is clear and in the system. calling DMV now to check on the HOV app, hopefully they hadn't started processing yet and haven't sent it back...

edit: spoke with DMV, AGAIN they tell me they're processing applications from march 19th (this is three straight days now they've been working on march 19th). haven't we seen people who sent in apps after march 19th already get their stickers?

this is what i was looking for - clearly, they are not "working on processing for march 19th" as they've told me for the past three days if we have someone who mailed their app on the 27th and already has had their check cashed. how are you guys getting them to give you any information? all i get is "when did you send it?" and when i tell them last week they say "we're currently working on processing march 19th."

One time I called and the agent said there was no record under my plate number. A minute later I thought of another question and called back.

I told the second agent it wasn't in the system yet, but she asked for my plate number anyway, looked it up, and said there was an unspecified transaction in the system for the preceding Saturday, and to call back in a couple of days and they could tell me more. Of course the transaction was the sticker; nothing else was pending.

So it really depends on the agent you get.

    Are you calling 916-657-8035?
