When the inverter went out in our old one, we noticed a 2-3mpg improvement when we got it back with a new inverter installed. This was instant improvement.

It also took a month for us to get our car back because the part had to be ordered from Japan.

I just got a call back from Toyota about my Prius. They said it IS the inverter, and that they have to order it. She said the part would be at their shop at 7:30 am tomorrow and that I could pick it up in the afternoon.

Good to hear they had an inverter available for the next day. I'm sure the Chevy dealership will handle any expenses, but this should be completely under Toyota's warranty. Also, Toyota will most likely do the recall fix as well. After that, it should be clear sailing for you.

They didn't have one in stock. They had to order it but said it would only take a day.

My fingers got ahead of me! I updated my post. Good luck with the Prius once you get it back.

Just to update you guys, the quote was wrong and I've now been told that the part is on backorder. She said tuesday at the earliest, but I don't really think I can believe that.

Many moons ago my friend had an engine fail under warranty. It took the dealer over two months to repair. It was excuse after excuse after excuse. He called daily, had me drive him there every other day or so (60 miles round trip), and yes he called Chrysler regularly. When he finally got the call I drove him there, he got his baby back.. A tenth of a mile down the road the most hellacious noise came from under the hood and the car blew some smoke and quit. He lost his mind. The dealership came and got the car, a week or so later they called and said a connecting rod bolt wasn't torqued correctly or was missing.. I can't remember.. Anyway they ended up replacing the whole engine the second time.. The worst part was he worked on cars out of his garage and was plenty capable of handling the initial repair himself, but opted for the "free" warranty work.
So the moral of the story is: it could be worse. Although I suppose I should have waited until you got yours back first before sharing :)

I've had my recall done with 118,000 miles. My dealer tole me that the failure was very rare and tended to be in cars with petrol head drivers that were being pushed to the limit for a considerable length of time.

Well, I'm going to NC from the 15th to the 22nd and I'm just hoping it's at least ready by the time I get back, but who knows!

And my dealer told me the Prius was bomb proof and unheard of to break down. Mine has broken down a number of times. Do I drive it hard all the time? Absolutely not. Do I have a mad moment from time to time when in a rush? For sure.

I heard that all people of Wilmington are bigots. Is that true? Apparently cab drivers drive crazy so I'm guessing sweeping statements are the order of the day.

Did not mean to imply all cab drivers drive crazy! Your situation just came to mind.

Your dealer is just a dealer. My dealer is a mate and would never lie!

Grumpy can't be crazy anymore, he's a retired cabbie.

Would that be a "crabby cabbie"?
