Just a question but why do so many "keep it stock" and NON Prius C owners come into Prius C MODification posts and voice their opinion as how/why we shouldn't modify our vehicles?

Because, as fellow users of the road, we are also victims of the illegally and unsafely overtinted windows.

As a bicyclist, I find eye contact with drivers to be a critical safety issue. Many motorcyclists and pedestrians feel the same. The rate of overtinted windows is climbing fast.

Fine and dandy BUT safety can only be SO much of the issue with front window tint as a good handful of states allow 5% on all windows but full windsheild..... Just saying, i have 78% on my front and only 20% on my rear, I can see fine and am legal in most if not ALL states. Eye contact? man, gotta live like a motorcyclist and treat all cage drivers as if they're all BROKEN/stupid drones who cannot, do not and WILL NOT see or respect you.

PS in WA it's legal to go down to 24% tint up front which is pretty dark for front tint IRL. that would mean to be legal they could do 30% yet i bet a lot of folks do 20%. A lot of folks do 50-30% up front which in YOUR state is PERFECTLY legal. and yes, I agree, quite dark. ESPECIALLY if rears are 5%, makes the front look much darker.

I find that a lot of bicyclists/pedestrians like to argue that a lot of drivers are inattentive to them, but see many many times that they themselves rarely stop for stop signs or even give a thought to stopping and looking before venturing into the road, and feel it is their right of way to go as they please and vehicles will stop for them.

Then you also get a lot of them motorcycle riders that like to weave in and out of traffic...

In bright sunlight, I agree that heavy tint is a beneficial thing. However, at all other times, including dusk, dawn, heavy rain, dense overcast skies, and night-time, over-tinting is a definite hazard. I'm sure the stats for cars with heavily-tinted windows having accidents would prove me correct.

i have to agree on the fact that dark tint is not also beneficial. my windows are fairly dark, past the legal limit, and in most cases they are find to see thru from the inside. but when it is raining at night, it has a negative effect.

Just for reference, my car has 20% in the rear 5 and 78% on the front four. looks pretty dark. I bet a TON of folks who do 5% rear and a50 or darker up front get popped by leos.

I doubt it. Prius C is a good looking car, but there are ton of sporty cars out there with tint that attracting cops like magnets. You must be very bad luck or doing something really stupid to get a ticket for tint with a C. I saw it in the past, cops are very racist with cars. I drove a old-man-car buick, they didn't even bothered to check who was driving it. I was amazed how much they ignored me.

While I dont know the stats, I have to say I honestly have no problem seeing out my windows. Its not me being a rebel, or arguing for argument's sake, I just dont have any problem seeing out my windows. The first time I get in a car I just tinted there is of course that "whoa thats dark" feeling but I quickly adjust. Of course there is less light coming in, but I honestly find it less distracting to have tint at night compared to bright lights in my side and rear view mirrors.

I understand your point, even if I don't agree with it. When my doctor told me my blood-pressure was too high, I kept saying "I feel fine" until he showed me what it was doing to my health. I have been listening to his medical advice ever since.

Has NOTHING to do with good looking, sports car, or old man Buick. Depends on the LEO and "luck" This is my first car to have tinted the front windows and between my dislike for dark front tint and issues with police I chose a very light and LEGAL front tint. I've yet to meet a LEO who profiles cars for tint. in most places(where it's illegal) if it's 5% all around you're going to get popped if they see you, or if you get pulled over for something else that might just get added on. A lot of it all depends on your attitude with the officer, as well as just how their day has been going. "Racist" with cars. Wth does that even mean? If one wanted to be "racist" with cars I'd say anyone in a tinted out old man Buick is one set of rims away from being a deep east Oakland drug dealer... Thus going to get profiled , especially with an EASILY seen C.V.C. (California Vehicle Code, "Insert blah blah state here...") infraction such as dark front tint...

I have this exact setup and I think it looks great. As for the sun, if you get a quality tint it'll block almost all of the sun's UV rays (along with excellent heat rejection).

The glass itself will block almost all of the most harmful UV-B radiation, which causes sunburn and cancer. UV-A will pass through, but it is considered less harmful, and is the type of UV used in tanning-beds.

I dont know if I'm allowed to post this, but I got my prius tint from this person:
I was able to choose the darkness for each window for that price and the cut outs were perfect. There was one error where they accidentally cut two passenger side front windows but they immediately shipped out a replacement. I'm not affiliated with them other than I was a customer a year ago.

    A less-cool solution is the pull-down sunshade.

As uncool as it is, pull-down shade is also more of a obstruction than 5% shade

and with 35% front and 5% rear, even my wife doesn't complain about visibility and sees just fine and she's actually commented on how much better she can see at night and day due to the tint reducing glare from the sun/headlights of other cars. And for those moments when she needs to revers in the dark dark, her C is equipped with backup camera, so that's a no brainer.

I'm no optical physicist, but I'm not sure how tinting cuts down glare, relative to what you see. It seems to me that if you cut down the light by 35% your iris opens wider, and you see the same amount of glare, relative to everything else. In fact, a wider aperture in your eye should theoretically let in more side-glare.

Polarized lenses actually do reduce glare, while clarifying the rest of the image to the eye. I may be wrong, but I don't believe any of the window tinting procedures provide polarization.

Weaving in and out of traffic, or lane splitting?
I don't do either, but lane-splitting is legal in many states...including CA.

I'm not aware of any state that allows front windows to be tinted at 5%.
I loathe people that always ask for cites when arguing, and I'm not going to look it up for you, but I'll state publicly that I believe that all 50 states regulate tint on front windows. IIRC, the darkest you can go is about 25 percent.
    If I'm wrong?
It won't be the first time:)
I ride bikes and M/C's both, and I'll stipulate that most bicyclist have no business on public streets, and I'll further stipulate that motorcyclist have their own ambassadors as well, and many of the "loud pipes save lives" folks are riding ILLEGALLY as well.

    It's pretty simple, really.
    You're legal...or you're not.
If you've got loads of attitude and dark windows (or loud pipes) you're probably going to have LEO problems.
That's really not my lookout, since people who fragrantly break the law give cops doing traffic something better to do than bother me.
If you're in a car behind dark windows you fall into one of two categories:
    1. You're a moron who doesn't see me.
    2. You do see me and you're trying to kill me.

    I drive accordingly.
Save the respect thing for LEO.

    Asked and answered.

By that logic no sunglasses would be effective. Also by your logic having high beams or the sun in your face as you drive shouldn't be an issue as your iris will just constrict. Both, hopefully you will admit are not true.
Listen, if you dont want to break the law, dont. Dont speed, come to full stops at stop signs, dont glance at a phone, or your lunch, or your passenger, don't do anything wrong legally or ethically. Live perfect and someday you might be able to say "I told you so" and I hope it's as satisfying as you have always dreamed.
I can see YOU just fine. I'm sure others with tint can see YOU just fine as well if they choose to be alert drivers. If you want to assume we cant see anything and you want to drive overly defensive as a result, go for it, just realize the safest place is far behind me, so move over. Your comfort level on the road is not my concern. Offending you is not my concern. I'll deal with the consequences of tint if law enforcement deems it necessary.
