About that, yeah. 3.7/3.9. 4 qts takes the oil line just a bit over full. It won't be cataclysmic, but for the OCD in me it just isn't tidy.

He didn't clarify. The leading up posts were all about oil and viscosity. So if he was, he should have been a little more clear. This is the transmission and oil change thread though... so I can see the confusion.

whoa,,, are you going to be putting tranny fluid into the engine oil fill ? mo' better to let the dealer do it right. letz see 30,000 mile tranny change is about a year and a half of driving. that does seem too early to me. tranny or CVT ,,, itz stilll a transmission with gears somehow,,, right .?.

It's the same oil in both the tranny and the oil reservoir. It's got planetary gears.

Interesting to see this, I will def check color and level at 30k and see if I will do initial change then or wait until 60k.

Should I get a flush done for the transmission oil? or just a drain and fill? I'm at 36500 Miles. I figured it's a good as time as any. I keep getting it done every 35K. I plan to keep this car for a long time.

If you read above there's no flush it's more like a Manual gearbox(as in no real pump or clutches, torque converter, or filter) so it is just a Drain and Fill procedure.

The Prius transaxle pretty much completely drains. I'd just drain and fill. Getting the first change done sooner than later seems a good strategy. Then extend the interval for next change.

Different people had different opinion. Doesn't matter which side you are on, there are will be the others unhappy half. Anyway, in my opinion, changing transmission fluid every 30K miles is bad for the transmission. You can only ESTIMATE how much fluid to add back in the car, but impossible to get perfect. Under or over adding the fluid to the car is very bad for transmission. Since the oil doesn't need to be change, you basically just weakening the trans. I know a lot of you doing for the Love of the C, but it is better to leave it alone. If you change at 60K or 100K mile, then it is more reasonable, but at 30K miles is just adding unnessarry headache.
I been changed my oil for all my cars, and I changed transmission oil couple times (complete job with new filter and gasket). I had not touch the C yet, since I still got 2 year service, but when I saw the pictures, I was freak out. The cap and the drain looked like regular oil to me. Hope no one will blow up the trans from this thread.

Are you serious? With the vehicle level you fill until the ws fluid pours out of the fill hole.

Same as any Manual transmission. Have you read much if any of this thread? There's pictures and how to's.

The HSD transmission is NOTHING like a traditional automatic transmission. There are no clutches, no torque converter, and no filter...

Better to say nothing than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

^ I've got Repair Manual for hatchback Prius, not C, but if it's remotely similar (and I'm betting it is): the above advice is spot-on.

Just get it raised and level, drain the old fluid, refill with Toyota ATF-WS through the fill hole, 'till it starts coming back out.

Also, "the cap and drain" pics posted by Mr Incredible are for engine oil, not transaxle. There was some confusion regarding a poster's question.

That's why I posted a link after Mr Incredibles that show them on a Gen 2 transmission. While not exact, they are basically the same and give the concept.

omg,,, this 'c' is clearly not the same. itz like saying men & women both have nipples, both have breasts, and are basically the same. after all, we, just like the prii also have the same manufacturer/ creator.
is anyone answering this with a model specific documentation for the c ?
