no no no . . . it's NOT whether the Prius can handle snow . . . . it's whether YOU can handle how well the Prius does in the snow:

I just got my Prius Three on 5/3 so a lot of this is fresh in my mind. Though I cannot answer all your questions as since I just got my Prius I don't know how it'd handle in snow and even when it gets that season we don't see much snow here in SC. But here's my go at it.

    1. Unknown.
    2. I wanted Bluetooth (comes on Two or Three), back up camera (only on Three) and solar roof (only on Three). So I opted for the Three. I think the price difference was around $2,000.
    3. I was told to try not to brake hard and to vary your speed (no cruise control) for something like maybe 500 miles.
    4. My dealer scheduled my first oil change and it's not until November or 10,000 miles.
    5. From what I read on here, yes.
    6. I checked out some used Nissans at Carmax and they looked smaller than the Prius to me. Since I have a little boy (he's one) and a big dog (German Shepherd) I wanted more space.
    7. My dealer just said "Here she is" and we drove to the gas station and got gas. Oh and there was a bee in my car, strangest thing. Mine was a dealer trade so I did have to wait for it to get there and get cleaned up. The salesperson did try to get the bee out and when we got to the gas station we saw him fly away.
    8. Don't know, didn't get an extended warranty. They were pushing for it though but it was going to be too much for my tastes. They had the warranty packaged in with other stuff I didn't want (fabric protection, paint sealant, life insurance etc.) so I declined it all and when the factory warranty gets closer to running out I will look into it then. I'm in the South East Toyota distributor area so I'm not sure how much of that garbage they were trying to sell me was from Toyota or SET, I know the paint sealant and fabric protection was from SET. I wanted the 0% financing but then they said it's either that or a $1,200 rebate and the rebate worked to my advantage so I didn't want to pay interest on a warranty.

^ Well, you said earlier that you were in the biz, so you know how the up-sell works, right?

Besides....the Nav unit sucks and the leather is plastic.
    Good Luck!

Enjoy your new car. I got my Prius C at the end of January and put snows on it within 400 miles-just before we went from nice sunny weather in Western Mass to a couple weeks worth of snow storms. With the blizzaks on it never missed a beat and being the lightest of the Prius family I would think the hatchback should do better. My wife is not a fan of the Prius C and would like to try the other 2 models at some point. Being that she is 4'11" makes any car purchase a challenge for the both of us since I am 6'3" so will be fun to try them both for fit.

Welcome to the club! I must admit when I made my first response I was not sure if someone was pulling my leg, but apparently not.

    1. What can I expect from this car driving in the snow covered streets? Say 1 inch to 5 inch or blizzard?1-5 ok blizzard maybe bad.

    2. Is it worth buying the Prius 3 vs Prius 2 that's a personal question.

    3. What is a proper break in regiment on a brand new Toyota Prius 2014. Don't do higway or interstate driving, the same spped and rpms can be bad at first.

    4. Should I change the engine oil within 500 miles? No reason to. If you want to do a early one do it at 5k that's half of what people are doing.

    5. Can I use full synthetic oil? You have too, or really should. It comes in the car.

After all said and done picked her up in black with the beige interior only because I wanted a black carpet

So much light comes into the car I'm getting tints ASAP

I will get the environmental protection package I get it for $100 the undercoating rust protection etc etc next week just like my cars to be without rust and I will be scotch guarding tomorrow morning

Over all I know I got a decent deal could have punched for a better price but believe it or not I hate to haggle when I buy

Paid $22500 with the $500 rebate and 0% 60 months

I know they cracked me on the extended warranty $1695 5 year 125,000 miles $0 deduct platinum Toyota I think it should have been no more than $1200

I'm happy I tipped my sales guy $50 out of respect because when we sell cars without a profit usually it's called a mini deal and the salesman usually makes $75 on a sale that's it no hourly nothing in his case they pay $125 mini so the $50 I gave him puts him at $175 for an all day event literally I made him review the car with me from top to bottom he could have easily took another customer and cracked that customer and took home another $1500 easy

A word of advice salesman have no power in price. ask your salesman how much do they get paid on a mini... Tip them if you are a smart shopper and use truecar edmunds for below invoice pricing after all that salesman does have the power to get you super deals on accessories and service or your car in and out tie wash bay faster whenever you need a car wash

    Congratulations!

I purchased my car 2.5 weeks ago. Same exterior color as yours, but with the dark grey interior.

Like you, I have a 60mile round trip commute and make a lot of side trips. I've already got 1500 miles in the short time I've owned the car. Loving everything about the car.

I was considering several cars under 25k, and with the Southeast Toyota Dealers group offering rebates on these cars, the price was right and the purchase just made sense. My car's purchase price with tax and tag included was a little under yours - I had no reasons to not pull the trigger.

This car is my commuter and our family in-town vehicle for short trips to the store, etc.. It has served its purpose well so far. It is actually quite enjoyable to drive.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be a downer. You still paid under the average - I read somewhere during my search that the average is around $23,200.

You'll forget all about it after your first fill up in a few days.

I could have gotten it for 21500 but I decided to go 0% for 60 months each region in in USA has there own rebates like in Texas you can get a hybrid Camry with $1000 rebate and 72 month 0%

Hmmmm ... I don't get it ... many threads here on PC talk about how you don't have to get the extended warranty until the very last day of the 3 year warranty ... so why would you pay for it up front. And if a dumb slow-mo like me knows that ... then why wouldn't a salesperson in the business know that. And ... If you didn't know that - then I would also advise going to get your money back - which you legally have a right do. Those kinds of service contracts are enforcably refundable due to their very nature ... ie you're paying for something way way up front before you'll ever even use it - if in fact you ever end up using it at all.

Yes I know you can wait till the last min to buy a warranty but...

    1. The price is higher
Every manufacture has tiered pricing based on miles and year it was first in service.
    2. When you wait for the possible last min and decide to finance it you will pay interest even if they say it's 0% from any manufacture it's factored in
    3. I actually have a right to receive a full refund minus $100 processing if I wait 3 years or 36000 miles to receive a full refund.

I always buy a warranty and I always get GAP insurance to protect me in case of total loss.

I WILL NEVER BUY AND DON'T recommend To any of my family to purchase GAP insurance from the car dealer because if anything they are way over priced! I recommend to ask your insurance company like mine American Family gives me GAP insurance for $1 a month and yes I actually did use it once and it protected me from $4000 out of pocket. I believe if you finance with State Farm they sell GAP or you can go online and purchase GAP for maybe $200 for the life of the loan.

I have seen customers in my line of business ignore GAP and they total their car and come crying to the dealer for me to help them out the only way I can cover is for them to buy a new car with a good rebate have good credit and roll in the money owed to the finance company for what their insurance did not cover.

Yes I'm in the car business but if something happens to my car I have to be protected with a warranty and gap just in case.

All manufactures are notorious for not fixing a car even if it's out of warranty 200 miles. As a consumer it is your job to protect yourself. I would not take any advice from someone that will not pay for your car getting fixed if something were to happen to it.

The only time I don't recommend warranty is if you plan on trading in within 3 years or 36,000 miles but at that point you should only lease a car never buy.

Good to hear that you are up on all the issues. However you may want to check the Prius chat store. Did you know that out forum owner Danny (as a benefit of priuschat membership) has special arrangements with a dealership back east whereby many of us have received super great pricing on the extended warranty? You'll likely save at least a couple hundred bucks iirc. It's just a thought.

Toyota has put a stop to cross state selling of warranty some warranty being sold in different states are toyota but have different restrictions I rather have no issues because toyota does have the right to not honor a warranty that was sold against their policy at that point you will have a right to receive a full refund on the warranty purchase but you will be dealing directly with the selling dealer if they are still in business and you will have to file suit against the dealer for the cost of fixing your car which can take forever just because a warranty was sold to you cross state lines does not mean they have to honor it especially if it was sold against their policy Toyota has the final say so not the agent technically from my understanding if you buy the car from the dealer out I state that's the only time warranty extended purchase is honored

I declined the extended warranty. I would be interested in hearing from people that came out ahead spending the premium. I have never owned a car that would have used the extended warranty. The most expensive repair that I've had was the AC compressor on a '95 Odyssey and that was in 2009 after 298000 miles, didn't fix, traded it off.
