    Hi. Newbie here. :)

We've had our Gen II Prius for 8 years now.

In fact... 8 years and 2 months, and 85k miles (15k under the warranty) when the HV battery pooped out. We got it to the local dealership on limp-home mode.

The dealership's quote to replace the HV battery was $3,279.53.

After talking to Customer Care, Toyota said that the dealership would reduce the price to $2,772, and Toyota would cover $1,800, for a total of a 65% price reduction.

We would be responsible for $972.27.

Is this the normal amount of courtesy subsidy?

A few older posts I found here said that Toyota covered the entire cost of the battery and the owner covered only labor, for cars that were well over the warranty period. I didn't see anything recent though.

Thank you for any comments or thoughts!

there isn't a 'normal amount' and sometimes they do nothing at all. i think they are treating you right and you're getting a very good deal. all the best!(y)

To be honest, I think that any good will subsidy you get outside warranty is a very good deal. Some people have done slightly better, but some people have got nothing. In other markets (outside of North America) I don't think it's been happening at all.

    Interesting. Thank you!

Yeah, we've had it almost always serviced by Toyota dealerships. Once I changed the oil myself to learn the ins-and-outs but otherwise, a long service history.

$1000 is much better than $2000+ for a refurbished battery, or the $3300 you were quoted originally for the Toyota battery, so I'd say you got a pretty good deal.
