Our Patent Pending Prius Hybrid Battery Rebalancer (Grid Charger) that is going to be released this Memorial Day weekend will have a fixed 350mA Constant Current output. Our Patent Pending PHEV conversion charger that will be released later this summer will intelligently vary charge from 3A to 0A and also offer a Hybrid Battery Rebalancing mode.

This varies by model. It must be >100% of total cell capacity in order for the re-balance process to occur. For example, the 04-09 Prius charger is set to 250V, the 99-03 Prius is around 340V.

Los Gatos? Nice. It's a warm one today. I live just off Hwy 85 & Union Ave :)

Thankx for the info. I've built a grid-charger for an Insight so I'll just mod it to work with my 2004 Prius, which has 225Kmile. Since I've already have the Enginer kit installed, the re-balancer connection should be straight forward.

Since I live at 2200ft, on Summit Rd (the poor side of LG), the commute down maxes out the pack , almost on a daily basis.

So do you think my pack would benefit from a top balancing ?
Do you also mod to turn on the pack fan while top balancing the Prius pack ?
And how long would you recommend to leave the top balancer on ? given that the normal Prius ECU doesn't charge beyond 80% SOC or so ?

ps: It's cooler up here, you're in the heat soup down there.

You don't drive the Citrus by chance do you? My day job is in Santa Cruz and drive over the hill twice each day. I see several Insights going back and forth on 17 and one is a Citrus that lives off of Summit Road. I paced the gentleman in my Citrus one morning, that was fun :)

Our Prius system does have OEM HV battery fan power & control included standard. This is a key feature/safety measure that allows easy in-car hybrid battery pack rebalancing. This is a key part of the IP that is protected by our pending patent application. We isolate the car's 12V system and provide our own power. Using our grid charger will NEVER drain the car's small 12V aux battery.

It would absolutely be worthwhile to rebalance the Insight (and Prius) hybrid battery once every 8-10 weeks. The cars limit charge at 80% and when that level is hit bleed the battery down to 75%. As a result an imbalance of up to 20% could be present and would never be corrected by the vehicles electronics, even with the long downhill regen of Hwy 17. This is why the rebalancing at the pack level has to be performed with the car ignition off. We recommend 4-6 hours of balancing after the cells reach 100% SOC. Most people don't like to think about SOC percentages and cell efficiency, so we simplify the process and recommend a 20-24 hours charge/balance cycle.

Our Patent Application has been filed! US Provisional Patent Application # 62002167. This was the last to-do before releasing our Prius Grid Charger line. We will be working hard to update the website and formally release this weekend. WooHooo!! :)

Hello everybody. I do not know English. I use Google translator.
The high-voltage battery of my Prius is slowly dying. The voltage difference on the elements more and more. There is an idea to make 28 units of beams, set in the top of the battery cell.
The essence of the module is simple: monitors cell voltage, as soon as its value reaches 8 - 8.2 volts include ballast resistor. Ie of the charging current will be a detour through the resistor element in the achievement of the voltage 8 volts.
Recently did a homemade device to charge the battery for the screwdriver on the old Lithium cells. As a result, after 3-4 tsykl charge voltage leveled.
Tell me if anyone knows what voltage occurs at 80% charge of one element?

Thanks for this awesome information. I would like to use the same method.
