    Hi Prius Chatters,

I'm new here. I've been doing my research and I've already had the pleasure of teaching the dealership salesmen a few things about Prii yet I've only been in it for a week. I think I found the one. I'm going to check it out tomorrow (05/14/14) and I may go for it if it checks out.

My question is, what do you think? It doesn't seem like a great deal or anything but it's the best Gen II I can find and this is within my budget. Getting a good deal is important too, though. If everything checks out would you go for it? At what price point? I know it would be difficult to say being as no one here has actually seen the car nor have I but my feelings about it are that it's priced on the high side.

So far from one phone call I understand the 12v Battery has never been replaced.

It has No options besides a CD player and Cruise Control. No aux. No SKS, no back-up camera. Nada.

Never been waxed (Paint might not be perfect)

Brakes seem to be good (claimed 10,000 miles left)

Tires not sure, need to check

And besides that, I need to check everything else first hand.

Based off of this and just skimming the ad, is it not listed too high from the get go?

Thank you for your time and any input is appreciated.

    Regards,

    Sasha

The car looks like it has sks from the door handle and wheels, so it's a minimum package 2 with rear camera.

Looks nice enough to me. Low mileage too. If its a true package one, those were only sold as fleet cars. So if this is the second owner, he/she likely bought it from a fleet. That doesn't mean its bad, only that its low optioned. If it truly has no SKS, it is a one and is a fleet car from its inception.

I just looked at the ad and it truly does look like it has SKS so that would mean its a Prius two and not a fleet car.

Woah! Good to know. You can tell from the wheels? How? I was under the impression that it might have the button on the door but not actually carry the option. Is it possible he doesn't have the SKS version of the key yet has the option installed? If so would I be able to attain the SKS key and at what cost? Thank you for your response.

The "standard" prius wheel doesn't have the wheel ring around it, the picture of the car has the wheel ring. If the car in the picture is what they are selling, it is 100% a minimum package 2. Many owners of the Prius are clueless to what package they have, Toyota makes it very confusing to figure out.

There is one more out there. Except this one has some some bumper damage. The owner had run into a pole and got a repair job from some kids on the street apparently and needless to say the job was shady and it damaged the paint.

This one doesn't have service records from the beginning but it is one owner and has back-up camera, SKS, CD and Cruise.

The GenII cars actually have a "standard" prius that can be purchased by anyone. Only in GenIII, the base package 1 was for fleet purchases only. Didn't apply to GenII.

If you have $15000 to spend, that should be enough to get you into a used GenIII. Unless you prefer the GenII

I see numerous beautiful Gen II's in your area for less than 15k.

    Thank you.

Is there a way to decode the VIN to figure that out? I haven't had luck with figuring out what car is what package plugging it in to various databases. The most I can get is the acronym STD which I've been using to plug into KBB as Standard.

update your profile to show your location, looks like you're in the LA area.

You really can't compare a Longo Ad price to an Autotrader Ad Price, it's apples and oranges. There are TONS of deals in the LA area, listed everyday on autotrader and craigslist. If you are not comfortable with private sales, then the numerous dealerships in the local area would have something you want, at a slightly higher price.

A recent new member bought a 2010 package 3 with leather in Cathedral city for $13700 with 87000 miles on it. This was through a Toyota dealership. This is one of the better deals through a dealer, but they are out there.

Wow, 4 months ago I sold my 2011 Prius 2 for $14,000. It had 34,000 miles and was still under the original factory warrenty. I hope that gives you a clue about the price of this one

I'm really trying to get the lowest mileage possible. 15k isn't actually my budget. It's 13k which is why I'm seeking advice. Based off of KBB, Clear Book and Edmunds I thought somewhere around 13k - 14k would be Fair unless the mileage is even lower. There are a few with mileage in the 55k range. One 38k which is a dealer priced at 15k, no room to negotiate would make it well beyond my budget after taxes and fees.

I assume you are looking for a cash purchase? If you are financing, there are many good deals going for new ones.

I am financing about 2/3rd's with a loan through my bank already worked out and ready to go. It will work out as cash towards the buyer with an overnighted check. Just pulling some strings together now to finalize the right one.

I'm afraid I might have to walk away if the buyers is attached to it at 15k, though. The green one I posted is about the same condition wise and listed 14k.

One thing I've learned about buying a used car is not to let your emotions get the best of you. No matter how good of a deal looks 1 day, tomorrow there will be a better deal. You can't rush into buying a used car.

Upon browsing Priuschat I also found somebody here who purchased their Gen II for 10,300 with less miles just 5 months ago as well. I believe it was in California as well. Which is why I feel like some of the ones I've been finding are on the high side but I understand they're also in demand at low mileage.

So it's fair to say these aren't the best deals.
