Indeed. I do appreciate everyone's input. Thanks again. Confirms my notion's about some of these prices.

I made sure to mention that it was a private party I was buying from.
They didn't say anything about an inspection.

They normally would have to make sure the VIN matches the title as the bank will also be on the title. You should clarify with the bank on what's needed before you put a deposit down on a car.

You can't rush in to buying a new one either. I have a 2011 Prius Two that is garage kept in mint condition. A Toyota dealer would only give me $13,000 trade in on a new 2014 Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring. I'll drive the Prius until the wheels falls off before I give it away.

Just because it's a rental, it does not mean it has to be a standard Prius I. If it was originally registered in AZ, you won't get the CA Carb Warranty

No go on tan interiors. Those don't sit well with me.

You can always buy leather clazzio seat covers and make the seats not tan.

A car that has that much body work done should raise a red flag.

But it's much more than the seats. It's the carpet, too. It's really not something I enjoy sitting in at all.

Did you try both keys on the sks door function? Press the unlock/lock buttons to make sure the car responds?

It doesn't seem perfect but as long as you can live with the short comings, it shouldn't be too bad. I just hate being in a CARB state and not having the warranty. Defeats the reason why you would pay so much money to live in high priced California and not get their benefits.

Exactly. It's really a tough situation to be in as a car buyer. It is a good car but lacks a critical piece of mind. It's more than that, it's a $3k battery replacement safety net. Put it that way and it makes sense to move on.

The ticking sound you heard is probably the brake actuator pump, it's more of a fast rattling sound. You normally would hear it when you press the brakes, it turns on every time it has to build pressure. If there are no warning lights on the car, then it probably isn't a problem.

    At $12,000 I think it's a very reasonable price. At $15000, it's a very high price.

The SKS function not working properly would be a deal breaker for me. That function has come in so handy, it's probably the best feature in the car. No more looking for keys, just walk up to the car and open it.

The CARB warranty would be another downer but won't be a deal breaker on a 2009. The car is fairly new so the battery should hold up. But you should caution, the last 5 years it's been living in a very hot climate, both AZ and CA can be very bad for the battery. So it's really a roll of the dice

    True

The search will most likely continue. Bring on the 105 degree weather and LA traffic.
