Fisker's New Billionaire Owner to "Burn As Much Cash As It Takes To Succeed"

According to bko rules, he'll have to (attempt to) build 'em here in the U.S. - so at least that's something. I know Lutz wanted to get ahold of the company so he could convert it into a straight gasser. He's so innovative.

Putting together lot's of Chinese-made parts in USA does NOT a USA-made vehicle make, duh!

no different than an american car company building cars outside of our borders and then selling them in the usa... or an american company getting parts form overseas and assembling cars here and claiming "made in the usa"

It's all about CONTENT...CONTENT...CONTENT and not location of assembly.

There's little difference between JUNK parts assembled perfectly and PERFECT parts assembled imperfectly...the end result(s) are typically the same.

Labeling laws require the percent content of parts to list country of origin. Even those assembled outside the US can still have a large percentage of US made parts.

If this Fisker has a high percent of Chinese parts, it will raise some eye brows.

I remember when people used to say Japanese parts were inferior but they improved. Chinese manufacturers are getting better too... they already build many of our electronics.

On Autoline it was stated most of the money goes to engineering & testing. The hosts would rather buy an American-engineered car since 70-80% of the dollar stays in the country (even if the car was assembled in Mexico or Europe).

In all reality it doesn't matter much anymore. there are only two car companies that are "US" based.. and they are but a shell of what they once where.

I'd be willing to bet that foreign car makers have invested more in the USA in the last decade than the "US Automakers" I have some bitterness towards GM and will never ever directly support GM buy purchasing a vehicle from them.

If a chinese businessman is buying the company. I would wholly expect there to be a high percentage of chinese parts.

Heck the toyota camry has 86% parts from USA... but we don't consider it american since the car maker is foreign..but a GM car built in mexico with parts from everywhere but the usa is still considered American.. the average consumer doesn't know about labels....they get brainwashed by a dealers ads...

I don't think ANYONE can deny - that the Karma is/was a beautiful/artsy looking ride:

It's definately not the most economical hybrid ... and for that matter, the whole series hybrid configuration isn't as efficient as parallel - but hey - you drop a V8 into any automobile ... and you're not likely looking for pure economy. The thing I like most about hearing that Fisker has risen from the ashes is that it brings more competition to the high end PHEV / EV category. Ultimately, that can only be good for the tech, & I wish them well.

Make the front a seamless, closed 'nose' and I would agree. Then remove the side mirrors and flush the door handles, much better:

The pipes and gills works for me even if impractical. Finally, add seamless moon caps, not shown in the above.

oh yea ... the notorious & totally useless 4Lb bumper on the 70's era vette ... not quite on par with the Tesla crash results. and yea ... after it's been running for a bit ... do NOT exit/enter the car without shoes and long pants on, unless you want 3rd degree burns
    :p

One of the things I did when my beloved company issued me my (their) G3 was to take the "0-percent US content" sticker off of the car and put it on the filing cabinet by my desk. ;)

I got a new car and I got to watch all of the union hacks flop and twitch.
    Win-Win. :D

As stated above.....competition is a good thing!
If you could build an EV or PHEV, give up a few Cd points and make it look good, AND make it reliable and moderately affordable????? I don't care if they make the parts and assemble the car in BFE.
    That's another win-win!

Besides.....how much would an iphone cost if they made them in SoCal? :D

An iphone would cost the same. Apples profits would probably go down $10/phone. If they made it in Texas $4/phone;) Would you pay an extra $4 if your phone wasn't assembled at a factory, where working conditions are so bad they need suicide nets? The mac pro price didn't change when they started making in the US.

My understanding is this came from Mike Daisey's one-man show, off-broadway, where the author-actor later admitted he'd taken 'artistic freedom' with his script.
Source: Mike Daisey apologizes to everyone; announces public forum - The Style Blog - The Washington Post

The other irony is Foxconn, the Chinese company whose factory was identified as only making Apple products. What is wrong with this picture? It was false.

There are horrible working conditions in the world. But the challenge is to separate sensationalism from the banality of evil.

i'd rather wait for the Supra resurgence in a PHEV format.
