New PlugIns with HOV stickers

I don't have a dog in this fight, Dianne, but noticed in one post you have 50 cars with HOV stickers, the other says you have 99. Am I missing something?

^^^Sounds like lots of green sticker PiP's still for sale at dealers after big Memorial Day weekend?
To the extent HOV stickers are driving PiP sales in CA, this trend should continue thru June anyways.
One wonders if May/June CA PiP sales will be as hot as Jan-April, or if most CA buyers pre-bought already due to the green HOV sticker sell-out.

If I were to buy a plug in without a green sticker, when the bill passes I will be able to get one then ?

This would be a way to get a great price on a plug in and the green sticker, might be a month or two of driving in the slow lane,,but for a couple thousand dollars...

Do you see anything wrong with this logic ?

 

Not Dianne but it depends on how much you dislike the slow lanes and the actual difference in price between the with stickers versus the without stickers.

Sounds like you are optimistically semi-assuming AB2013 will pass, but all bets are off as far as I know.

I agree. Paying OVER the MSRP just for a couple months, heck six months even....is simply absurd! I don't even know how that is legal...not that I'm saying it isn't but in my opinion it should be... Is it fair that one dealer can have 40 cars with HOV stickers and another has 0? I don't see how that makes sense...

Planning to speak to Toyota Corporate regarding this.

Maybe I just don't know the way this works...but I sure do know that if I just purchased a Plug in today...I should get a sticker if they are available....

 

I don't think I want to penalize a dealership for THINKING about their customers' needs. Dealers who don't think about their customers' needs are just selling cars. In this case, of what use is the purchase of a PHEV in So Cal without the green sticker?

If you buy a PHEV at Carson right now, you will get a sticker. They are still available there because someone there THOUGHT about this ahead of time. If you buy at a dealership that didn't give this some thought, well, too bad - you're just another buyer there. They don't care, apparently, if you get a sticker or not.

 

I don't see what the problem is. It's called a free market. Dealers who had the foresight to pre-order the green decals have a product that demands a premium. The MSRP is just that: the manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price. The dealer can get more or less from that, as the market demand varies. If the bill increasing the the limit for green decals passes, then the premium for them will go away. I haven't read the law, but my understanding is that purchases done now will qualify if the law passes and is signed into law.

Anyone know of ab2013 will pass? I just bought my plugin last Monday, I didn't know the dealer was responsible for providing the decals?

 

It isn't that the dealer is responsible for providing the stickers, but that dealers were allowed for a period of time to get stickers for cars they had in stock or in shipment to them. Some dealers had the foresight to get stickers assigned to cars, some didn't.

 

i bought a PIP in norCal a month ago without sticker. i should have known that there are dealers who still have green stickers for PIP. my dealer definitely didn't make it sound like any (toyota) dealers carried green sticker anymore. bastards. i really needed the green sticker for my long commute.
