    • Can you still make/receive phone calls using the steering wheel controls?
    • Can this be reversed i.e. replace the original HU and back to stock if I don't like it or is there a dash modification?
    • Obviously I would lose the CD player but that doesn't concern me at all. Are there any other downsides to this?
    • How does the tablet hook into the car? Is a cable or harness involved?
    • I would like some DIY steps that a technician could follow to install this as I am not physically capable of this myself. Please, I really like the looks of this!

I am worried about leaving a tablet permanently in my dash because of the California heat. But anyways, I bought the same Alpine Perfect fit dash and I'm planning to use my iPad mini with Retina display but am still considering an Acer due to this thread. Waiting for more posts...

Perhaps you can do the D.I.Y. step by step for us?

Sorry guys i've been a little busy. As for A DYI ill give you the basics. If you cant remove the stock radio I dont suggest trying this. Its very easy.

    Android apps I use
Tasker, Autosleeper Auto Power on-off, Poweramp, MX player, Google Maps, Netflix, Pandora

    1. Remove old stereo (make sure you set all your radio stations because you can still listen top the radio using the steering control) and remove the the faceplate.
    2. Drill new holes on the brackets(to move the stock radio and 1/4" further back).
    3. Move the bluetooth antenna to gain more clearance
    4. Re-install stock radio back in

    5. Mount the tablet to the Alpine dash kit. I used JB weld Epoxy and some perforated metal strips that i bought at Home Depot.

    6. Ran the wires (micro usb and aux cables)to the armrest

    7. plug everything in and you're done
    should look like this. 20140607_101950.jpg

here is a quick video I made of what can be done on the tablet.

Awesome thank you! But what is your regular dash display telling you in the green square box just right of your R/N/D?

Fantastic job, @xcuter! If they had a silver version of the kit then I'd do this in my PiP in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the amazing post here! I was inspired by this to do it myself so I'm going to get an Acer tablet so I don't have to JB Weld my iPad. Did you disconnect your battery at any time for the installation?
Also, I'm going to look for other tablet install solutions because I still am not 100% sure on leaving a tablet inside a hot car, always plugged in.

Is the unit removable? Wondering how you'd access the MicroSD card if you needed to swap it out...

It takes me 2 min to pull the tablet out. I installed the tablet the way I did just incase I needed to get to micro sd and power buttons.

@Grren4ever has a thread in the audio mods section where his kit is gun-metal

All the Alpine perfect fit Prius bezels come in black only. I spoke with Alpine headquarters many times and harassed them frequently about releasing a gun-metal silver version and they pretty much told me to go get a life.

I bit the dust and paid $200 to color-match mine. You can probably do it yourself with a $10 bottle of spray paint from the local hardware store. The OEM plate has a bit of silver sparkle in it as well so is hard to match 100%. Mine has a lifetime warranty against peeling or fading so I paid for just for the peace of mind.

    Good luck!

What I do if I'm moving a lot of files is unplug the usb cable from the cig adapter and plug into my laptop to transfer files. If it's only a couple files I use Dropbox.

I've had several at BestBuy inform me that this would not work with my car. They also said that they couldn't install a backup camera. I have to have a different car that has GPS for either of these installations.
