Paint Peeling Door Arm Rest

wow, that is shitty. I better make sure I don't have sunscreen on my arms next time I lean on the door rest. I haven't experienced this issue on my car yet (knock on wood)

Have you tried this site for a replacement trim piece?

2013 Toyota Prius Parts - Toyota Parts Superstore=

 

I've pulled those trim pieces off before to disable/reenable the power window controls. Believe they're ABS, but I'd thought they were molded in that color. Didn't realize they were painted..

*adds a note to look into protective clear coats for plastics to the list of automotive things-to-do in the future..*

 

Noticed that my front passenger side armrest trim is all scuffed up. (this was after my wife had to unbuckled herself from the seatbelt to turn herself around and kneel in the seat to attend to my son in the back. in the process, her shoe rubbed against the silver trim piece and put some nice scuff marks on it). Does anyone know the part number for this piece? I assume its the same part number for a 2014 as a 2013...


I've come to the realization that interior trim panels is something that Toyota definitely does not make very durable...had the same issue with the door panels on my Tacoma where they scuffed really easily.....

I am thinking about the same solution to protect these areas on both the passenger and drivers side. I've noticed that I always rest my left leg against the trim piece on the drivers door. I am sure its a matter of time before the paint starts to peel here.

Have you found a film to apply to this area? I am wondering if ppf used for clear bras would also work here...

I have not, but I've not made that much progress on the list of future auto things-to-do. I do have a long strip of Xpel Ultimate but that's earmarked for something exterior.

 

I bet you could remove that (and the one on the opposite door) and find a good spray paint match at the parts store. Or, if that makes you antsy, you might be able to use PlastiDip. Won't last as long, but you could peel off at any time. Then cover with clear film to prevent future damage.

When painting, go lightly and apply multiple coats. Follow the directions carefully with regards to temperatures and drying times between coats. Folks on the TacomaWorld board get amazing results on stuff like this with ordinary spray paint and PlastiDip.

The key with the spray paint option is trying to find the exact match. I remember when working at NUMMI in Fremont, there were all sorts of spray cans for touchup on the interior. I can recall a rattle can for the mat finish of the 2005+ upper dash for touchups on the IP line...
