I just recently noticed that my posts are being re-formatted.
Not immediately but sometime within 24 hours.

I like to use short sentences and leave some white space to make reading easier but.......when I see my posts the next day, it is all run together and the formatting is gone.

    Why is that ??

Also the post preview using Chrome is still not working for me.
It appears that the preview "balloon" is being placed off the screen at the bottom, where it really is not visible. The only time when it works for me is when there is less than 3 posts on the list and there is blank space at the bottom of the displayed page.

I pulled up one of your posts from Monday, and it looks OK here in Chrome, Firefox and Opera browsers:

    Here's the one I noticed:

No, yes and ridiculous in that order. Led's have a current drain that is much less that an equivalent incandescent or halogen bulb.....even with higher output. Yes it looks like there is something in the assembly as a whole that is not good quality. Is there no warranty? They might be trying to push the led's too far, trying to get more light out than is healthy for them. If the shared ground was bad (not making a good connection with the negative battery), then a voltage would appear on the common ground bus and a light with voltage on both sides simply stops working; it does not burn out.
    ---------------------------------
This last part at the bottom had extensive formatting that just disappeared.
My guess is that somebody with MOD capabilities doesn't like my posting style and is screwing with me. You'd think they would have something better to do.

That seems extremely unlikely, considering all the far more dreadful formatting that goes untouched.

I use quite a bit of white space myself and have never noticed anything changing.

I think its important for all PC users to remember that Danny (founder) and all the outstanding moderators on this site give their time and provide us with this awesome blog for our amazing vehicle. It seems possible that they have done such a great job that when we see a little problem, we forget the big picture of what they are doing/providing.

With that said, Thank you to all the moderators and to Danny for your work. I personally don't see them reformatting someone's post. I'm pretty sure they don't have time.

What other possible explanation is there ?
I make a post and it shows up just as I intended it.
24 hours later, it has changed.
It would take some fairly complicated software to read, parse and then apply some arbitrary rules and then re-format the text.....automatically.
And if that were happening, why has nobody else noticed it ??

Idk but really??? They're singling you out? Who knows why it happened??? I do doubt a mod has time for that but, maybe they do.

I've noticed similar things as well. Combining posts, deleting threads, never with an explanation. It's really aggravating to spend time discussing something (even if a mod doesn't think it's worthy of discussion) just to find it changed and or deleted. An example is the tailgate thread from yesterday. At no point did that thread get nasty or redundant or out of control. Now it's gone. Why should I bother to participate at all if someone is going to just delete stuff? If a mod (or a specific user I won't name) doesn't like a thread don't read the damn thing. If it gets off topic post a warning to get it back on track. If it's run it's course lock it. Deleting it without warning is a childish power play. Act like an adult and at least explain why.

    That's the point exactly.
It seems that a lot of things on here go totally unexplained.
Kind of like the users exist only for the owners pleasure and enrichment.

I feel compelled to step in here.

That statement is uncalled for, and unfair. I've met 'the owner' and most of the moderators personally. Theirs is a mostly thankless job, and they put up with an unreasonable amount of crap. I assure you, they all have far better things to do than supervise our sandbox squabbles, much less read and reformat all of our posts.

As an IT person, I find it difficult to believe that posts would get reformatted after a given amount of time either due to sysadmin/moderator intervention or random technical weirdness. It is most likely an issue with the particular user's setup.

Has the OP tried viewing their posts with different browsers/computers/mobile devices? This may very well reveal a pattern.

I would hope that is true, but someone is deleting posts for certain. All it takes is one person with a grudge or a power trip to ruin all the good work of the owner and other moderators.
Aside from the tailgating thread, you and I participated (somewhat lively at times) what I thought was a great thread on moving to the right. There were disagreements for sure and lots of discussion that went back and forth but for the most part the discussion was STILL progressing with another user finding relevant quotes. It was a topic I spent a LOT of MY time on, and it was just deleted without reason. Both threads were deleted after on particular user (that did not even participate in the thread) popped up and started calling people trolls, and I can't help but think that person is involved. I hope I'm wrong.
I don't know about you but I can get wordy, and sometimes I'm actually proud of what I write... (sometimes not and I'll apologize if I go over the line). I'm right sometimes and wrong sometimes and these forums are a great way to exchange and debate ideas and the effort that goes into that (from all parties) is real. The fact that someone feels the need to delete that is honestly offensive to me, like my efforts and the efforts of the other participants are for nothing. I'm honestly writing this right now wondering why bother? Someone will take offense and it'll just be gone..
Being a mod IS a thankless job. I've been a bbs sysop and cosop, irc op, forum owner/mod etc. I've been on the other side, but I never just waved my hand and did stuff like this.. There should be steps.. "Hey guys get back on topic" "this thread has run it's course. Time to lock it." etc.

I'm getting pretty tired of not getting any answers to problems encountered here.

I was completely unable to connect for about 5 weeks.......on different browsers and different computers and even my phone.
Actually it would connect after a huge delay but then nothing worked.

AND THEN.....as if by magic and with no explanation, it started working again.

And now I am using Chrome because of some lingering problems with IE......and some of the features in the new software don't work right with IT EITHER. How many different browsers do you want me to try ???????

Incidentally, the "post preview" feature that I can't get to work with Chrome if there are more than 3 posts on the list.......works perfectly with IE 11.

And I'm not a rookie at this. I've been on the net since BEFORE it was called the Internet, part of that time at Bell Labs.

Could there be some kind of a problem at my end still......sure but without some response from the host end that's pretty much impossible to figure out.

Terrible customer service from my perspective.

Did you enter one or two carriage returns after each paragraph in your last post? It looks like one. When I copied and pasted my last post into word, it had two carriage return after each paragraph, and is much easier to read.

Image of how the messages look in Word:

    cr.png

Notice how in KhaPhoRa's message (not the OP, my mistake), paragraphs end with one arrow, while mine end with two. This definitely seems like a browser/software issue to me.

Possibly, but at least you have a blank line between paragraphs (much easier on the eyes).

    Test. One on this line.
    Two on this line.

    End test.

There must have been a reason. We just don't know what it is.

I haven't been around here for the past few days, so I didn't know it had been deleted. But if things got nasty and personal, that's probably why.

Generally, my observation is that when conversations turn political (sometimes also known as nasty and personal), they get moved to the House of Politics. That way, the people who'd rather not deal with that sort of thing are able to avoid it. Threads have been locked and moved before, and less often, deleted. I don't like it when that happens, either. But if and when we become a distraction to the general user, or worse, an embarrassment to the site, that's a problem.

I'm no IT guy, and I never worked at Bell Labs, but something tells me that if you've got a unique problem, the cause is most likely at your end.

Neither thread got nasty and they both remained on topic. If it was moved I could understand, but deleting them both? I spent a lot of time on some of those posts (I know, you'd never be able to tell).
I've had posts merged, I've had posts vanish (one was quoted and replied to before it vanished so there's proof it existed), I can't say my posts have been edited or reformatted as I haven't noticed it (other than merging some together) and threads I've been a part of have been deleted, all of these without notice or explanation.
I know I'm stepping into hyperbole territory here but these changes are changes to the history of the events and discussions here, a history of dissent, agreement, research, opinion, emotions, and honest effort by real people.
I know I'm venting at this point but I'm just really frustrated.
