It's not about ignorance. It's just about being annoying.

Previously, I enjoyed some of your posts (e.g. about BMWs, gold diggers, etc.) and thought you were a funny guy.

I'm not sure what's the point of posting some of the random large pics, esp. w/just words. If you're out to annoy people, well, some folks like Bob have put you on ignore, so he's not going to see them. More and more people will get annoyed and also either ignore/skip over your posts or add you to ignore. And others are right, good posts will be lost in the noise/ignore.

I think it's impossible to come up w/rules and guidelines ahead of time to cover every situation. AFAIK, Ebay has to constantly alter/evolve their rules. Saw a documentary long ago where they were having a meeting on whether it should be allowed to sell human breast milk there... Either they or Yahoo Auctions (dead in the US) had a policy against selling clean urine samples. I'd guess it's because someone tried it.

Not everyone is a fan of this style of communication, however I'm not a fan of long winded posts. It's a big world we need to get used to it. Twitter perhaps one of the most popular social media sites is 140 characters or less, much of the communications are pictorial. Flickr is almost all pictorial. Pinterest which was purchased by Facebook for 1 Billion dollars is mostly pictorial comments. YouTube is video.

Bob I'm not concerned with him. He lost my respect a long time ago.

I suggest you check out the North Korea PC chat, mostly pictorial with brief comments. Censorship is a dirty word and frankly I had about 3 or so complaints, but about 20 PM supporting pictorial comments. It is an option on the PC, some can choose to use it and others can elect to not. That is called choice. However if you decide to post a style I'm not fond of, I won't make a personal attack, and I will support your choice. Part of communication is we may disagree. However I will not choose to control your method. I don't have that privilege per the First Amendment. I'm surprised that you don't support the constitution of the United States of America and have not thought about that but rather trivial things about the formatting of a picture or if one should be long or short in there discourse. In Gitlow v New York protects freedom of speech. will be my last post on this subject. Hopefully we can share some commonality in our future posts.

But this isn't Twitter, Flickr, Pinterest, Facebook nor YouTube. AFAIK, it wasn't Pinterest that was bought by Facebook, it was Instagram.

I hardly use Twitter other than to enter sweepstakes or to communicate via that means when there's no other way to (e.g. w/the Verizon FiOS guy re: copy protection long ago). I don't use Flickr much as I don't think I even an account there. I occasionally browse pics there if someone posts a link. Pinterest? I only use it to enter sweepstakes/drawings. Instragram? Don't use it. Have had the app on my iPhone since before the buyout. I have posted a whopping 1 pic, for the purpose of entering a drawing.

Your right this is not Twitter, however PC provides tools to upload photos and I elect to use them. I support your personal choice of what Social Media tools you decide to not use or use. The point is I or no one else is asking you to not use those tools, or styles. Censorship is a dirty word in democracy. frankly I have no right to ask you, or you I.

If I said I think you should not post words only pictures you would be offended. You would tell me to go jump in a lake. Are you getting it?

Good point Bisco but no violence posts I can recall , oh wait Bob likes to post that picture of someone shooting a Gun when he disagrees with you. :-(

JMD has one other another issue - wild/untrue accusations when members disagree with him or in this instance, don't agree with him enough. Then when asked for proof makes more wild accusations. Today he is now the only member I've ever put on ignore.

Yup he is the only member on my ignore list as well since the personal attacks in the Paula dean thread. I don't believe he is a troll though. Trolls generally argue because it's fun. I love playing devil's advocate and having logical arguments. I think JMD honestly believes the cockamamy that spews out and is truly uneducated and illogical. There's no argument or even discussion.

Reminds me of the pigeon chess quote. Modified for here:

”Debating JMD on any topic is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory."

^ I don't think he is a troll either, but still problematical.

I'm more convinced than ever learning how to have a good discussion with others is a skill that needs constant honing. It's best done behaving as if you are face-to-face, even if you are not. Feedback in the internet is limited and it's too easy to go well past the point in a personal meeting body language would tell you to stop. I suspect most of the PC flamethrowers would either avoid going nearly as far in a personal setting, or find themselves very, very lonely if they attempted what they do online.

Again, this is a skill - the ability to reason without unduly alienating your audience. And sometimes you have to realize you can't win them all.

I did not want to legitimize any of TH threads, so I'm asking it here.

Why do PC members respond to his threads?

His history the past month on PC alone should make it obvious he is a troll, but he's also done it for a dozen years at various hybrid, EV, and sound system forums...his name and trolling come up in Google. His topics are always calculated to generate controversy, and his replies fuel more argument.

Fortunately, some have wised up to TH, but a few continue to respond....for the rest: why?

If there is no counter to the misinformation, then those who don't know it is just a problem with him might actually believe what he is spewing.

^ a month ago, you would be spot on, but since then TH trolled one of his threads to deletion, then did the same on the left lane thread. Now he's hard at work on his thread of going 40 on a freeway (FWIW, I might go nearly that slow, but on an alternate road or the access road, but NOT the freeway.)

Anyway, TH's recent activity is enough the vast majority of us know by now his intentions are bad.

There is a hypothesis that using "ignore" leads a troll to become more extreme. I would not know but if it does, it would be perfect.

I have thought before that honorary "Prius Expert" type badges should be given out by moderators or populous vote to those member who actually know about the Prius. That way when you get 3 responses to a question you know which person has more weight by the badge. I doubt TH would ever earn one. JMD was the only one on my ignore but TH and the guy that looks like Hank from King of the Hill with the PiP just made it too.

Interesting you brought that up. Years ago, GreenHybrid had a forum feature that allowed members to give points on other's posts. In theory, someone like Bill Merchant would be voted one of the Prius Experts. What Troy Heagy did as ElectricTroy, was create at least a dozen sock puppets to anoint himself an expert...he was eventually caught, then banned.

Like a little grade school punk, TH is repeating his bait on his going 40 mph thread, begging for a response.

TH reminds me of this loser, who needs his behavior to catch up with him like it did with 'Violentacrez' > Violentacrez Fired: Michael Brutsch Loses Job After Reddit Troll Identity Exposed By Gawker

We had "reputation points" on another car forum I frequent (mp3car.com for CarPC's) but it turned into "The Rep Club". Talking about it is violating the first rule of Rep Club, if you catch the reference :)

So the reputation thing worked for the most part with a few that racked it up quickly. But all that had it including myself were the veterans so it self policed. You could negate points as well. So the majority of people would probably vote down TH and even if he and his 10 closest alternate personalities voted him up he would still lose all his rep.
