I wonder what happened that the Tesla hit the Corolla.

In one version of the story Mr. GTA was resuscitated.

I suspect there isn't much to the Tesla rear ending the Corolla story. I'll bet on speeding & tailgating. Drivers forget that the higher the speed means the greater the safe distance between cars. If the Tesla had a proper PCS the car would have slowed or stopped.

    Hmmmm....
That piques my curiosity a little.
Why would the LAT specify the make of the cars in an accident that would have normally carried a headline like:
3 dead, 2 injured in rear-end crash on 14 Freeway in Palmdale.

It reminds me of when our objective press first started anthropomorphizing SUV's when they were involved in accidents.

I know that the greenies out there have had a Scrappy-Do attitude about EV/PHEVs for quite a while now, but I don't get where the LAT is going with this.

    Who? Why?
I don't see what a Subaru commercial has to say about either GM or Tesla.
The family in the commercial that survived wasn't in the car that got hit, were they?

If I needed a car that could flee police at speeds of 100mph through city streets, crashing into multiple cars and take out two light poles before it broke in half I am not sure exactly which car would fit the bill.

The Tesla was STOLEN, and the POLICE were in a HIGH speed pursuit in West Hollywood, Tesla lost control, clipped a parked car, hit the pole, front half hit the BMW, nice person hit the building!
Not a normal accident scenario for any car!
    Simple

OK, haters - explain why a gasser that crashes at over 100 mph (or less) does not also crash-and-burn

While I was fully expecting some hater voices to pop up again, I haven't actually heard them this time. Have you?

^ Maybe some sarcastic replies were confused for a hater, but let's assume no haters on this thread. I fully expect this to be on talk radio as 'proof' the Tesla is dangerous.

Plus, no other details on the crash. Were the fatalities wearing seatbelts? Did the Corolla get pushed into another object? How old was the Corolla? How fast was the Tesla going?
You'd rather want to be a 3 safety star car while racing through city streets at 100+ miles per hour and then colliding into multiple objects?o_O

Have all the tesla crashes that have made the news been over 100?
It only takes a few seconds to get to 60, probably a few more to get to 100.
I remember the first one where the steel pole pierced the underbelly and didn't catch fire until after the FD opened the battery case by mistake.
The tesla sales person I talked with a few weeks ago told me about the 100 + cement wall crash.
I haven't kept track of many since then, and all I've heard so far about this one is what I've read here.

I thought the first one was the Seattle-Renton case, which indeed was a puncture from heavy road debris. It burned shortly after the driver pulled over to stop, long before the FD arrived.

Battery fire, there is nothing the FD can do but keep others away from what is about to happen. Then call the hazardous waste team to clean up the mess.

We don't seem to get much publicity over Magnesium gearbox fires which are also difficult to extinguish.

The old air-cooled VW Beetles had a magnesium crankcase. Did you ever see one of those catch fire? I sure did.
