What's your favorite brand ice cream? For me it would be Thrifty. I still love going into what now is a Rite Aid and getting me a triple scoop waffle cone of strawberry cheesecake or chocolate malt crunch.

Jaconelli's, which used to win all the awards for the best ice-cream in Scotland.

I am a bit biased though - it was my family's company.

I got a 1-litre ice-cream making machine, and asked my great uncle for the recipe. It started with 8,000 gallons of milk. I had to do a lot of dividing.

Damn spiffy! Oh, and it's all about yack in the box. McD's can't touch it. :D and don't act like you're that fancy either ;)

I wonder how hard would it be to get that stuff to the US to try. Hmmmmmmmmm.

I'd give you the recipe, but then I'd have to kill you.

Omerta still means something in the Italian ice-cream industry.

A lot of these favourites seem to be heavy on the extras.

For me, a lot of the pleasure of ice cream is in its simplicity.

I won't tell you the numbers - because then I really would have to hunt you all down and kill you - but the Jaconelli's ice cream only contained the following things:

    • Milk
    • Cornflour
    • Sugar
    • Vanilla

And it's that simplicity that makes it so lovely.

If I'm going to flavour it, I keep it simple. I just add one of the following things:

    • Strawberries on their own
    • Strawberries and black pepper
    • Ginger
    • Raspberries

Next time I get the machine out, I'm toying with using the basic family recipe, but replacing the milk and half of the cornflour with coconut cream.

I also sometimes use my ice-cream maker to make sorbets (do Americans call them sherbets?) My favourite is a bloody mary one, with tomato juice, vodka, Tabasco, and Worcestershire sauce. I serve it with celery and prawns (shrimp).

At the risk of getting this moved into FHoPolitics, I can't recommend soft-serve ice-creams (the ones that squeeze out of a machine, and are called Mr Whippy in Britain, like the ones you get in McDonald's) because of the lady who invented it.

Of course everybody hates that s***.

Ooops, can't use that word here. Apparently I got warned for it for some f***ing reason... damn it! F***ing s***er f***ing f***ity f***. A little off topic, but yeah, I got a mouth that'll make a sailor blush. It's called being a Marine (SHOTS FIRED!!! Give me what you got, squids!)

But yeah, anyways, everybody hates that stuff unless you're a broke nice person kid that only has $.69 for a self serve soft serve from AM/PM and you try and stack that s*** as high as you mother****ing can.

FHoPolitics lets you swear. You should see what I called Onager the other day. With, I should emphasise, good reason.

But my post refers to a specific individual who is credited with inventing that type of ice cream. And honestly, soft-serve ice-cream was the least of her sins. It wasn't even her biggest dairy-consumption-related sin.

    Hang on....

    Aren't Marines sailors too?

Doesn't that mean your mouth makes you blush?

Wait a sec... I don't know of this FHoPolitics. Is this a invite only club or something? Yes, I had to go back over that to clean it up.

No. We're not penis suckling, fudge packing, white skirt wearing pansies. No offense to those fellas that like the D, just stating the point. We may have come from the Navy, but we're definitely the men's department. :D

Umm..... I'm not sure you can say that and then say "no offence". You've already done the offending.

Hahaha. Well, I did try and keep it as clean and PC as possible. Whatever. However I did mean it in a non-offensive manner in order to adjectify the traits of Sailors from a Marine Corps standpoint (except Corpsmans. They're cool as f***). None of this is "official" standpoint by any means. Just a bit of interbranch rib jabbing. But if someone has an issue with it, that's their problem and need to grow some thicker skin.

But anyways, back to ice cream. Preggo wife keeps having a craving for Baskin Robbins walnut sundae. 5 bucks for a single scoop sundae, geez. Like I said before, Rite Aid for Thrifty ice cream. 4 bucks for a triple scoop waffle cone.

  20. I just had a brain freeze climax. It was awesome.

So is local homemade ice cream. Spencer's around here.

    Discuss.
