    Agree!
Had to remove dash to replace a heater core that leaked on an old Buick, and getting everything out and then back in correctly took hours IIRC.

It once cost me $600 to have a $28 part replaced and it wasn't done by a dealer or it would have cost even more. A few years later and the part is broke again and not going to get fixed this time. It's not a safety item, just a valve to change the air vent flow for the heater, something I rarely use on my truck.

First, I do not understand why many people who answer ignore your problem and your wish to eliminate a true defect in your new car! You don't want the rattle and you should not have to live with it! If someone else wants to live with your rattling dashboard, let them buy the car!
I bought a Camry once with moon roof. Terrible wind noise! But once I drove off the lot, the noise was mine to keep! The manager agreed it was BAD but the rules of the game were, if you drove off without catching the problem, we don't do anything for you! I agree with the suggestion to trade it in. Someone who does not care can buy it! Just not me!
In the future, a solid test drive is a must! This really sucks and I'm sorry you have the couldn't-care-less Toyota dealer.

Most of the buzzes and rattles in my car were from stuff I had in the car, like items in the console.

The first time I took the wheel steering a Canadian DDE, many, many years ago, I was all tensed up, determined to stay on course. Over correcting for every little variation. The rest of the guys in the room graciously gave me a few tips, basically: don't overreact, when it starts to drift, hang on, it may drift back, and drift off to the other side. Mentioned if you were to take an aerial photo of ship being overcorrected, it would be zigzagging it's way along.

That attitude can be carried over to civi life. There'll be a symphony of small sounds from the car, especially new. They may persist, they may not. Getting the high priced help on it quickly is not always the best tack. Do keep in on it, but give it time, and get involved yourself, only calling in the pros if it persists and you're getting nowhere.

That's a pretty extreme statement just for a minor problem like a rattle.

To be fair, what you expect and accept for $30,000...is not what everyone does.

I agree it shouldn't be a rattle trap but reality is you will have an occasional one that may be intermittent.

I can almost always find them... Why my G3 may not be the quietest road car, it doesn't presently have any squeaks or rattles at least that I notice...

That's another issue.. Some people can hear inverter noise, some can't....

Really good ears may be a curse.

The extreme response the world is ending is interesting though...

Can you really be pristine picky with a 30k car?

The thing drives forever and gets great mileage.... That's close to perfection already?

I can only speak for myself. Even though I make a really good living now, I grew up dirt poor. Either way, $30,000.00 is still a lot of money. If there is an issue with a product I spend that much money on, it will be fixed to my content. Would I react as the OP did on this one? No, but that is me. My Dealership did spend 4 days T/S and fixing the brake rattle though, replacing the pin bushings and explaining what they found...before the TSB came out. We are all different and just because someone else did not like "their" Prius experience, does not give those that do, free rein to show disrespect. YMMV

:)I think we can disagree with the OP, without it being disrespectful. His initial post was in reference to his first visit for a dash rattle that wasn't resolved. I can understand his frustration. That resulted in his anti Toyota and Prius comments, but praising Honda. Surely, there's a dissatisfied Honda owner somewhere. His dash rattle was reduced to a tolerable level on subsequent visits. That's good news. Lesson learned, some vehicle issues won't be resolved on one visit. As a veteran on many car forums, I've yet to read of anyone here that's had a Prius bought back under the Lemon Law. Anyone?

    Exactly.

It's a cheap 30k car, what do you expect?

When mine was new, I took it in for every single thing in an effort to get it perfect. Guess what? They were never able to solve most of the "problems," and more often than not, they made the situation worse in some way.

Just live with it. If you want a car with higher build quality, get ready to spend a lot more $$$.

I had a 2011 Prius that I drove for 3 years. I just traded it for a 2014 Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring. I really like the Avalon. I think the Avalon is a much better value than the Prius. A little less MPG but well worth it to me. A much bigger, more comfortable, far more luxurious and a much better riding and driving car.
