I'm looking into getting a intake for my Prius. I started a thread because when I search I only come up with generation II threads unless I'm missing something! I can only find a injen intake for our generation III.

A company that prides themselves in providing more power or MPG or responsiveness would not sell an intake for a Prius, where it provides none of that.

That leaves you buying from a company willing to sell you more noise.

Wont affect the Prius Engine other than noise (better off with the Samco elbow); since IAT doesn't matter on the Prius as the motor works off the Atkinson cycle

So for $15 bucks why not a Injen intake? Would they both serve the same purpose u think jay j? Since the Samco is on 4-6 weeks backorder per there site

INJEN isn't CARB compliance in CA. Was looking at that. Don't think there are any intake which are CARB compliance for Prius in CA. It's just for show nothing much. That probably why K&N Filters don't make cold air intake for Prius?

Any Atkinson engine pumps intake mixture back into the intake manifold from the cylinder. This largely negates "cold air" as the cylinder has heated the air. Worse, if you put a 'shorty' intake on an Atkinson engine, it will pump mixture back into the open air, fouling up the fuel air ratio.

<sarcasm>But hey, it will make enough noise to annoy the neighbors, so it is all worthwhile. </sarcasm>

So it's bad idea to do your saying(short air intake I'm speaking of)?

Accordlayingkit, you opened up a can of worms on this debate.

From my experience, you are better off with a Samco intake or a similar product. If my memory serves me well, there was a thread back in the day when a PC member installed a INJEN intake and it threw a check engine light.

The Samco is what we consider a high flow intake which eliminates the Tuning box in our stock intake pipe. NO CODES and gives a steady flow of air into the intake manifold. This in return helps your mid-range power.

The power is not drastic, but my track times have improved with this mod.

I have the Injen intake on my car. No codes or issues. No increase in anything but sound. It doesn't change the sound on our cars like it does on other cars. I put it on for looks mainly and it opens up the engine bay due to removing all the stock set up. Hope this helps.
