LOL! What dealership do you go to that takes 4 hours to do an oil change? I make an appointment and am in and out in under 45 minutes, including a tire rotation and a car wash.

I take mine to Continental Toyota at Hodgkins, IL. They have an express oil change lane. No appointment. In and out in about 45 minutes.

I would be very keen to see that. Do you have the ability to scan or take a picture & attach, please? Not doubting you - just curious what you're seeing.

I think you know what it says. Just guessing. LOL.

I don't know if it was really necessary, but the first time I had the oil changed was at 5000 miles, at my own request. Then again at 10,000, and now I plan to just keep the regular schedule of every 10,000 miles.

But I did not want to go 10,000 miles on a new "break in" engine without changing the oil.

Perhaps unnecessary, but I felt better doing it.

And, that's fine. What I try to avoid is encouraging people to do things (or not do things) based on anecdote alone.

I admit to performing maintenance more frequently than required as well (5k OCI). I will also perform non-listed maintenance (brake flushes every two years & PSD fluid change at 60k). However, I make those decisions with an educated eye (oil analyses) and not just because of some internet tongue-wagger or outdated conventions.

I think in your instance there was nothing wrong with it. You feel better about it. I understand that and it did not break the bank. I have a new Avalon Hybrid and I will be taking it in soon for the first 5,000 mile check. I would not mind having my first oil change at 5,000 miles but I am not going to make an issue out of it with the dealer so I suppose I'll let it pass. I had a 2011 Prius Two and just traded it and it had 48,000 miles on it with zero issues. I started out from the beginning with 10,000 mile oil changes. A car, any car, is a big investment so a little over maintenance is certainly better than delayed maintenance.

Please post analysis of brake fluid. That would be very interesting.

I will be happy to do so. Check back in 23 months when I've hit the two-year mark. :)

    PMike, thanks for sharing!
Blackstone's comment at the top is anachronistic, but I always enjoy reading them.
