Vehicle Charging Receptacle Standards

    I've never used a public charging station as I've no need to do so. Is the plug on the vehicle end of the public charging station cord such that it fits all plug-in vehicles and supplies whatever power level is available for that vehicle? Perhaps some public charging stations just have 110 or 220 volt outlets and you bring your own charging cord? A link to where this information is available would be useful.

    The charger you have in the PiP is the same that I have on the Leaf and the Volt and almost all other current EV's in North America. It is a SAE J1772 style. In California you might have a few remnants of the paddle chargers used on the Rav4-EV (original) and EV1's, but those are legacy now. Otherwise, all non-Tesla L2's will be J1772. L3 charging is split between "combo", CHAdeMO, and Tesla's own proprietary connector.

    Some public charging stations in North America provide a 120V outlet that you plug your EVSE into, just as you would at home. However, most are 240V, and with these, the J1772 plug that fits into the car is part of the charging station. I am not counting the L3 chargers, since the PiP doesn't support this, in any flavor. The protocol between the charging station and the charger in the car sorts out voltage and current between themselves.
