    Hi Forum Members.

I was all set to replace my brakes all around, Read this article several times...

you have to search for it:

    counterman com/Article/82300/undercover_putting_the_brakes_on_toyota_hybrid_service_fears.

I headed to my local Toyota dealership.
When I went to buy the brakes I asked if the front shim set was included along with the grease. I have done brakes before and I believe the shims were included, but in this case they were not. When I asked the price the said $51.00!!! and, they were NOT in stock!.

Now, the article I link to said to always replace the shims..... (next to photo #4)

I assume this dealer does brakes nearly every day and they DON'T stock the recommended replacement parts????

This makes me think the dealer does not routinely replace shims.... is this ok?

So, I am upset they don't stock the shims, and, the price seems absurdly high.

Are they made stainless steel? I seem to remember my old Nissan shims were....

If they are stainless and/or corrosion-free ... I would think I could wire wheel them clean and reuse them.

    Thoughts?

Yes, you can reuse the shims. Just make sure you disconnect the 12V battery before you start your brake service because the accumulator pump is always hot and can start at any time (and will if the pressure gets too low). This will force your piston out of your caliper and could cause injury to you.

Yes, you can remove them but, make sure you get the right ones.
