2007 Dashboard lights & car not shutting off

    Hi all.

    I had a problem last night and am now a little afraid to take the car out.
    I have a 2007 Prius with 145,000 miles. Yesterday we drove for an hour and a half to my sisters.
    No problems on the way there. When we left there, there were no dashboard lights.
    The screen worked fine. So did the headlights and turn signals. But, no speedo or other
    dashboard lights. I wasn't worried. I figured we blew a fuse so I am going to check in a
    few minutes. But… when we got home, I couldn't turn the car off. I pressed the On/Off button
    many times and nothing. I tried putting the key fob in the socket, and hit the button and it shut off.
    Anyone have this problem, and what did you do to fix it ?
    I need the car for work in the morning but if it won't shut off, I have a real problem.

    All of your experiences relate to a "failed combination meter". Toyota will fix it for free.

    Read the attached file for more info.

    In case you miss this point: To shut down, hold down the power button three seconds or longer. Hold it down until the Prius shuts down.

    Toyota will probably keep the car a couple of days. They pay for the rental car too.

    Best of luck to you. Don't forget to read the attached file. Print it out if you can and take it with you to the dealer if they ask questions or seem to not understand.

    Other blogs say theyll fix it for free under 36k miles. Older cars obviously have way more. Did they help u out dom l 07

    If you will read the file posted in #2 above, you will see that Toyota issued a warranty extension good for a nine year period from first use, regardless of odometer mileage.

    The car won't turn off of the aux battery is too low. Try checking the battery first. It still could be the combination meter though, but I'd check the aux first.

    I really appreciate this thread, even though the last post on it was 3 years ago (as of this writing.) I will check the aux battery soon (thanks Wa-Chiss!).

    Unfortunately, it is currently beyond the warranty for me and I have been experiencing the combination meter issue. I called Toyota at the number on the warranty on the 2nd post above and they told me that my 2007 should have been taken in somewhere in March of 2016.

    If anyone has brought in their Prius for the same reason to a dealer and had to pay out of pocket like me, let me know what kind of expense I'm looking at just in case the aux battery turns out to be fine.
