When I get in to go somewhere in the morning sometimes the EV sign in the car is lit up and sometimes it is just the silhouette of the car on the right side. I know I am driving in Ev and it says Ev in the light on the left side but why the difference. Am I making any sense??

If EV icon is silhouette, the gas engine is running.

It was triggered for synergy usage with the gas engine. They could be for best use of each fuel, prolong the battery, gas engine maintenance, etc.

See the PiP FAQ thread for a list of things that can start the ICE. Understanding them can help you avoid it from starting if you think it is best and know better.

Thanks I will go through the FAQs again. I just thought if it was using gas it would switch to the HV silhouette. Thanks

This will also happen if you go over 62 MPH. The silhouette is telling you "yes, you have selected EV mode but right now you're in HV mode. I'll got back to EV mode as soon as possible." Like maybe if you slow down...! ;)

In the North American version of the PiP, the silhouette means that you are using both the electric motor and the ICE. Most of the power is coming from the battery, but some is coming from the gasoline engine. In this mode, the charge in the battery will be drawn down. European PiP users have determined that their version of the PiP doesn't do this.

It tells you the system is in EV-BOOST mode.

That isn't HV mode, since it's still drawing plug-supplied electricity from the battery.

No need to slow down. It's how the system achieves such great efficiency on the highway cruising at the faster speeds.
