FWIW, the Premier A/S is a great tire although comparable in FE to the PureContact but less than the OEM tires or Energy Saver A/S.

I am a little confused on the Cinturato P7 link. On the Pirelli site, I see 3 different versions:

    Pirelli Cinturato P7
    Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season
Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus

On the first page, the link is referred to as "Pirelli Cinturato P7" but the link is actually to Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus.

What would be an All Season Tire that would be good in moderate snow, yet give good MPGs?

G/F has picked up 4 mpg from her 206-60-16'' Turanza OEM [ still good at 53,500,,2012 ''v'' ] by going to the Premier. She usually was around 44 mpg, now 48 mpg. My HB gets in the mid to high 50's with 215-55-16'' Premiers, not a bad FE tire for us. Your location and driving habits might result in different numbers.....

Just curious. Your profile shows a Prius Four HB which would mean it would have come with 17-inch wheels. Did you downgrade to 16-inch wheels?

Sorry for the confusion. The P7 comes in the Prius 17" size. So it's a Grand Touring tire. I changed the tire name on the first page. The All-Season Plus is the correct tire.

He was talking about his GF's car. Maybe she has a GenII Touring model?

    A GenIII Model 4 would have 15" wheels, not 17s. :)

The Ecopia EP422 rates well as per TireRack in the snow and it gives decent fuel economy but it has poor wet traction and handling. It's comfy though.

The PureContact does well in snow and has excellent wet traction and handling but less fuel economy. I believe the Premier A/S rates high too.

A better option is to buy a dedicated set of winter tires. More cost up front but less in the long run and you'd be much safer.

I have a 2014 level 4 HB, which came with 15'' S33s that ''wandered'' and went to 16'' Konig wheels and 215-55-16'' premiers for better handling--- which happened. G/F [ member here, ''Elsie Diveley'' ] has a 2012 level 3 ''v''. It came with 205-60-16'' Turanza tires on it. I got her a set of the Premiers for a birthday present---[ hey, we are old ] --- and they improved her mpg. I am getting the same mpg after switching tires and wheels. Her tires were actually quite good after 53,700 miles but her GD needed tires badly, so I just went ahead and installed her new Premiers and gave GD the set of Turanzas. Elsie is tickled with her new Premiers, and improved 4 mpg over the Turanzas.

E.T.A.,,,,, Tire rack rates the Premier high in snow and ice--- no concern here in Ms though. My concern was the monsoon season we have in Jan.--Feb.-- March. I feel better with her having highly rated ties for traction in adverse conditions. We both are tickled with the FE of them also. Time will tell about the life of them, rated for 60K--65k,, we'll see as I am keeping my car. She will get a Gen 4 the second year out, her tires will last until then.

    Lester,

Thanks for the info. I am intrigued that you are seeing better Fuel Economy with the Premier than kitkat, BhamPrius and others in this thread. Perhaps the 16" wheel combo makes a difference? Or did MPG initially drop and then pickup?

Interesting results for sure. The 215/55/16 is slightly larger than the 195/65/15s as well. One would normally expect to see an artificial "drop" in FE when going to the larger tire due to inaccurate calculation of revolutions. Revs per mile difference is 823 vs. 831. Not huge but it's there. :)

Yes, I did initially get a little drop, picked it back up though. Remember-- this is my first Prius and I am learning to hypermile. The bottom line is the Premiers get decent mpg.

How does Pirelli Cinturato P7 ASP compare to the PureContact? A recent Tirerack test comparing the Premier with these shows a little FE advantage for the P7 but was wondering if there's a real world consensus out there.

I think the difference is quite small. Maybe 1mpg in a Prius. Still, I would consider it an option if total mpg in a 17" tire was your highest priority. I can't remember how it rates for snow traction. It does well in other respects and TireRack customers really like it. It's also supposed to offer a nice ride which is nice compared to the PureContact which is a littler rougher. Now that mine are broken in they feel fine most of the time.

I have the wander issue as well with the 15" S33D tires; evan at city speeds the car will ever so slightly start weering one way and no matter how minute of an input I give to the steering, the car will start to weer to the other side and this goes on and on and I feel somewhat tired on the highway because of this. I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid as well which comes standard with 215-60-16 tires. I could try switching these onto the Prius you think?

srivenkat, will the wheels interchange? If so, give it a shot..... I was driving a Corvette convertible and a 2013 RX350 when I started ''dating'' Elsie, and she had the 2012 ''v'', which shamed both my ''cool'' cars in mpg. So,, I sold the C6 and bought the HB, after driving hers some. Her car is rock steady at interstate speeds--- the HB was not. I then added a TRD swaybar, which helped a little--- then went with the wider, 16'' tires, looking for stability and not being blown around by 18 wheelers and wind. They actually did improve that somewhat, but I then added the Cusco front, mid braces--- not quite there yet. I then added the Cusco STB---- all well now. I will eventually try some 195-65-15'' E/S on my factory rims, and use the S33s to burn a brushpile...... I think with all the suspension additions the car will be fine now. As said, I was getting 55--58 mpg with factory tires and still do, so I am happy with the car now.

I a 215/45/17 the Michelin Premier A/S, Continental TrueContact and Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S Plus are great tires that do well in all conditions. The P7 offers less wet traction but better mpg.
