From Diamonds to Dusty Cars: A new trend started by electric car owners?

Here in central texas rain fall is just a little above average but lakes are low from previous drought. You can only water at night on your day to water, and you can only wash your car at a car wash. My watering schedule is 7pm-5am thursdays, but during the bad drought there was no watering. In 2011 some neighboring towns got dry and we trucked in water.

commercial car washes use a lot less water than charity washes or washing cars at home. You can check at the local car wash places how much they use. I agree there probably should be no lawn watering in many places under drought conditions.

 

Commercial car washes should have sufficient water recycling to be exempted from most water restrictions.

 

Painful introspection here. To answer your points:
We found dual flush toilets in all residential and commercial buildings in Germany.
We found them in exactly 1 building in the USA, a library that also has special alternate fuel vehicle parking, but in no other residence or commercial building.
Low water washing machines are the rule in Germany; everybody we know there has one.
Low water washers like Miehle are AVAILABLE in the USA , but only one out of more than ten households in our extended family have such a machine.
Unfortunately I think some part of the USA population glories in wasteful forms of conspicuous consumption (e.g. Hummers , McMansion homes).

 

I have been seeing a lot of no-flush and very-low-flush (1 pint, or 0.5 liter) urinals in commercial and recreational facilities here in my portion of the US. This is a sharp drop from the previous 1 gallon / 3.8 liter standard. But this addresses only a part of the population, I have no idea if facilities for the other half are seeing any change.

Eight years ago, a front loader washer certainly produced a noticeable reduction in my home's water and energy consumptions. But the modern toilets (1.6 gallon at that time) were probably the biggest factor in reducing our water use. The regional water utilities also put considerable effort into fixing their leaks, saving enough to accommodate about three more decades of growth.
