I wish I was. 2nd time in what, 2 months? Brand new tire too. Likely and insurance claim because the wheel is chipped as is the front end.

Just driving safe and sane. The car in front of me didn't swerve. She hit it and flung it out at me. To fast to react.

It has become painfully clear to me that TPMS attracts puncturing debris to my tires. Not just to the Prius, but to the household's new Subaru too.

No doubt. I wasn't going to risk going out into the road to find whatever I hit but after hearing other cars hit it then a guy on a motorcycle hit it and pulled over to check for damage. I decided I'd better get it off the road before someone got hurt. It was dark but I waited until it was safe to enter the road and I found it. It was broken in 3 places but held together somehow. Like a car jack nunchuck! I'm glad the guy on the bike didn't get hurt.

Too bad! At least it's (mostly) consumables, minimum body damage. Good you got over safe.

Ah, I thought the pictured jack was yours, and the damage happened when you tried to use it.

Doncha just love winter? Everyone gets out their beaters with huge rust holes in and you liable to find just about anything on the road. Had to swerve around part of a bumper on 90 just past Cleveland about 2 weeks ago.

Good luck with the insurance claim. I seem to remember that if you hit or run over debris in the roadway it is considered collision, so it is subject to the deductible. OTOH, if something flies through the air and hits your car it is covered by comprehensive, which may have a lower or zero deductible. My car was damaged in the latter manner years ago, but the adjuster questioned me about the exact sequence of events. And this was with me providing the plate number of the commercial truck from which the debris came!

I contacted Continental Tire regarding their road hazard warranty. If within 12 months of purchase or the first 2/32nd of tread you encounter a road hazard that ruins the tire they will replace it with another same model tire. I simply provide my purchase receipt to the shop that installed the tires and they will be reimbursed for my new tire. I pay any mounting and balancing charges.

If this is how it shakes out then I won't file an insurance claim. I'll pay for a new wheel out of pocket and keep the damaged (cosmetic) wheel for a spare. I think the font lip that was ripped is less than $100. I'm not sure how I'll fix the clear bra but it's the least of my worries right now. :)

On today's drive I swerved to miss an aluminum stepladder extending into the left lane, rubber floor mats in the right lane, and an entire wheel, rim, driveshaft and half axle assembly. How in the heck can someone keep driving after losing an entire wheel/driveshaft assembly?
I still think a full sized spare should be a option for those of us who are past the age of invulnerability!

Any or all of those items probably just bounced of the back of someone's truck. ;(

Around here, the illegals/roach motel/apartment dwellers do car repairs in the parking lot and just dump the old parts on the pavement. I've seen brake pads, rotors, exhaust pipes, mufflers, filters, water pumps, broken belts, old stereo's, music CD's, etc.. in our shared parking lot over the last year or so- it's an absolute disgrace.
Don't you know... you're not responsible for picking up your own garbage in the new America? It's someone else's job!

We have an ethnic barber shop next to us at my job- they sometimes sweep the clumps of clippings right out onto the sidewalk! Talk about disgusting...
