inverter disc

The car shakes even if the engine is not running? Running in Neutral too? How many miles was on the replacement engine?

 

if it doesn't shake with the engine off, so the shaking should be engine related and not the inverter. How loud is the clatter sound you hear?

 

i would take it somewhere else. what is an inverter disc? how do you put so many miles on a car?

If this is a transaxle related part, is best to put in another one. It's unfortunate this came only after 15k miles on the newer engine. Maybe things need to be retorqued? The engine noise is not good either

 

I think there is a miscommunication going on between the tech and 2 fas. The inverter is only electronic but maintains the proper elec motor rpm to sync with the wheels and the engine as appropriate. To my knowledge there is no transaxle clutch like disc. If the inverter or it's control logic or some sensor is failing that's one thing and might cost $2700 from a dealer. But the tech saying "no guarantee" means they don't know. Find a tech that does know.

 

sounds to me like they did not assemble things correctly, and it took awhile to show up.

 

Indeed. Or bolt(s) that have come loose or off.

I think it would be worth $100 to have a tech who has replaced Prius engines before check the underside of the car. One thing is pretty likely: this is going to get worse until it is fixed, and delay is going to pile on costs.

Well, that has got to be a full tank of gas a day. Glad he has a Prius.

Maybe it is time to trade it in fer another one.

2 Fas 4 U – Pray tell, what is an “inverter disc,” and what is its function? Is it possibly the interface between the Whatchamacallit and the Thingamajig in the Hybrid Synergy Drive?

“$2,700 for the work,” but “can’t guarantee that’s the problem” or that the Tech-Mechanic can fix it… sounds like wallet grabbing, “Can-Of-Worms” opening time.

If an “inverter disc?” does exist as a mechanical entity, your “slightly shake and clatter” is probably a power train problem centered in the interface between the replacement, new (?used?) 2010 1.8-Liter 2ZR-FXE engine and the CVT Tranny.

If I understand the info in the posts in this thread:

It sounds like that horse has been ridden hard. It may be time to cut your losses, shoot that horse, and write it off on your business, or trade it in on a new or Certified Pre-Owned fuel-sipping ride.
