    The BMW i3 has been on sale over here for almost a year now (figures below upto end of June 14) and I thought I'd give you a sales split between the pure BEV only and the Range Extender versions;

    BEV i3: 339
    RE i3: 433

Total Sales for first 6 months of 2014 is 598 which is low compared to Nissan and their Leaf (1,712 sales in 6 months) and higher than the Tesla S at 245 for the same period.

    How Many Left?
NISSAN LEAF (model family) - How Many Left?
TESLA (manufacturer) - How Many Left?

Not sure what any of this proves :)

:)Although I don't live in the UK, when I decided to lease a i3, I went with the BEV. After 18 months of 10 mile Prius Plug In EV, eighty five mile all electric range is heaven. The BMW REx option makes the i3 more versatile, and calms the nerves of first time EV drivers. I can easily live within the eighty fire mile range, and don't need 365 pounds of REx to haul around daily, with additional maintenance and potential problems.

Comparison of the Prius against BEV and plug in competition. Other hybrids excluded as previously discussed.

    Renault Zoe EV: £18,443
    VW e-Up: £19,525
    Leaf: £21,490 to £23,590
    Prius: £21,995 to £25,295
    Nissan e-NV200 Combi: £22,859 to £25,643
BMW i3: £25,680 or £28,800 with range extender
    VW e-Golf: £26,145
    Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: £28,249
    Prius PIP: £28,395
    Ford Focus EV: £28,580
    Vauxhall Ampera (Chv Volt): £28,750
    Tesla S: £49,380 to £76,400

All prices are 'on the road' including tax, delivery, prep and 20% vat/sales tax and are after deduction of £5,000 incentive. Individual price is base model. All prices include the HV battery. Cheaper purchase options are available on some models if the HV battery is leased.

thanks gc! you've got a lot of models available to you, that's wonderful. is it still about one pound to one and a half dollars? 2000 pounds for the range extender seems very reasonable.

Well I found this list that's total and monthly BEV and PHEV sales in Europe. Notice that the Outlander PHEV is comfortably ahead, and the Ford Focus EV is a total laggard; 200 sales for the whole of Europe compared to 12k Leafs. The Kia Soul EV has sold more than the Focus EV and it's only been out for a couple months.

The Focus EV is Ford's just in case BEVs become popular, and they are probably with the US sales alone. We are a big country with a big population, and it's their home base. They could have left the car in California only like others have. It was only recently that Ford started selling a Mondeo hybrid in Europe.

You can at least get a Focus EV if you really, really want one, GC. Fiat is an European company, and the only way you can drive a 500e outside of two US states is with a ride sharing company in Turin. Fiat 500e Arrives Home In Europe None for sale on that side of the pond.

Maybe, maybe not. They sell it so they say they're a forward looking company, but you'll be hard pushed to buy one. It's hidden on the Ford UK website and sold by 2 dealers. Strange way of working unless they're going to say later that they tried, they didn't sell and will concentrate on hydrogen fuel cells in future.

It would have been better just to have not bothered selling them in RHD than over price their product and not advertise it, and a difficult to find page on their website. Ford UK just don't want to bother with hybrids or BEVs it seems. I think they're too influenced by the Clarkson ideals. The Mondeo hybrid is well expensive and again, I didn't realise they had released one and I thought I was on top of such news. It's never been advertised but is on the website: Cars Mondeo 2015 | Ford UK Not cheap though at £25,000 ($38,900)

You're right about Fiat though. The 500 was a hit in Europe before it was sold in the US and the 500c is a CA car only. They might sell here if they were inclined, though who'd by an electric Fiat?!!? You just know it would be a nightmare and if the car wasn't, the dealers would be.

When it comes to BEVs and car companies I have three groups. The first group are dedicated to BEVs. This is Tesla, that was founded on making a BEV, and Nissan, who wants to be what Toyota is for hybrids for BEVs. Then there are those that only sell a BEV to comply with CARB or other regulations.

Between them is the compliance plus companies. Those not necessarily pushing their BEVs, but at least selling them outside of compliance areas. Ford may be the least pushiest, finding a dealer for the Focus EV here isn't much better than in the UK, but they are a step above Fiat and Toyota.

The most recent fuel cell news out of Ford was a plug in concept. So it seems they won't abandon the plug with a FCV.

    Is the Mondeo hybrid imported?

I think it is. The Mondeo and Fusion and now virtually identical (a step up from the Mondeo/Contour days 20 years ago) with the non hybrid built in Spain. I don't think it's just import duties that bump up the Mondeo cost as it's a fully loaded model. There's a trend here for hybrid models to be range toppers (other than Toyota), which prices them out of the majority of owners.

The same seems to apply with the half hearted BEV sellers. Nissan, BMW, Renault all offer BEVs starting at a good price with a number of models in the range. Others like Kia and Ford have priced their BEV as a fully loaded premium model. Guess which are selling ;)

One thing I've noticed is that the price of the UK Tesla S has come ever so slightly. All helps.
