Yeah I'm finding that out as I go. Been finding way better deals in other places after I knew what to look for.

Also connected with Dianne at Carson Toyota and she was really nice! She also let me know that Toyota considers California as two separate states as incentives are usually better for the northern part of the state (above Bakersfield) than the southern part. She hasn't a clue as to why Toyota does that.

I'm checking with San Francisco Toyota now to see if they still have the deals they are currently advertising. We're getting close as we already have a car chosen with Dianne and if the cars in SF don't pan out, we'll be going with her.

California is split into the Los Angeles Region headquartered in Irvine and the San Francisco Region headquartered in San Ramon. Different regions have different incentives. The Prius must be selling faster in the Los Angeles Region since the incentives are lower.

So it looks like we're going to go with a 2014 Prius v, package 5 for $29,750 all in. Can't really find anything better at this point. Looked north of Bakersfield as well and with our $30k financing limit, we're coming in just under the wire with some to spare.

    Sound good to you all?

We actually did find one up north, but the difference was hardly worth a drive up to the Bay Area and a drive back--which is unusual since they have double the incentive money. We also found another one for way cheaper (about $4k), but the site AND the internet manager didn't mention until the last minute that it was a Toyota corporate used car with 5,000 miles on it. They were selling it as new since it was never "sold".

Around here a car can still be sold as new with as many as 7500 miles on it but each state has its own limits.

I have no idea what your taxes and fees are.

Truecar says a 2014 v Five can be bought in zip code 90210 for $26451.

If you are paying that much or less for the car then you have done well.

If you are happy with the car & the dealer and believe it is the best you can do, then pull the trigger & be happy that you did your best.

It doesn't matter what you pay for the car. There will always be someone who paid more and someone who paid less. The difference spread out over the life of the car is not significant.

About $3k in taxes and fees. Here in CA, 9% sales tax is the norm unfortunately. So that puts the price of the car around what you quoted from TrueCar. The reality of the taxes is what sobers you up after the negotiations end. :)

We checked with several dealers at different points of the state where we knew there would be high volume dealers. People must be buying as the last minute of the year deals were less than we expected as each dealer didn't have a lot of 2014 stock on hand.

I think we did well. Dianne at Carson was patient and honest with us as she took every counter offer that we threw at her as we found other cars at other dealers. They still weren't able to beat her price.

That's why I'm so glad I came by here before we got too far into the process. Not sure if we would have gotten the deal we had and the car we now have.

We might have gone with the package three if we couldn't get the price down. Dianne was the only one willing to work with us--even after the whole "here's our offer and if not, we're out the door" tactics we tried on other dealers. ;)
