I have a 2015 IV with the upgraded jbl stuff that comes with the sunroof. I am trying put music on a 64g thumb drive to use in lieu of an iPod. My iTunes is on an iMac with Yosemite OS. I want to:
    a. use the playlists I select
    b. have folders behave as playlists, albums and artist tabs behave as expected
    c. have album art appear on screen

I have experimented with two programs that export iTunes to various formats. Export for iTunes and iTunes Export. I have been unable to get everything to work correctly simultaneously, although album art has never shown up.

I owned a 2012 Prius three that accepted the usb drive, treating it as an iPod so I could browse, blah blah blah. Those drives do not perform the same in this more advanced audio system.

    Issues so far:
Sometimes the song names appear twice in the playlist. I think I have solved this.
Albums appear as playlist and playlists never appear.

    I need to know:
Is the playlist to be in the wu3 format?
Should the music be saved in one music folder, in artist/album format, or by playlist?
Do I care about the / in formatting a path?
Am I supposed to believe the manual with respect to usb 2.0 or 3.0?
All the radio accept mpeg bit rates of 320 as opposed to 320?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Only a few of the newer devices can handle USB memory over 32 GB. My dash-cam won't recognize 64GB. If there's no firmware update to fix that, you may have to wait for the hardware upgrade.

A PC is a different story, and I have used USB drives up to 128 GB on my 5-year old machine.

I have been using a 32 gig usb 2.0 thumb drive to set up the formatting, one that worked in my older prius and they still claim will work, so that should not be an issue. Thanks for the reply.

Oh and another thing about using a large USB storage device with a lot of music files on it. It caused my navigating system to really drag. When I have my 16gb card installed in the USB port, the next turn notifications and map display was way behind where I was. When I removed the USB storage device, the navigating caught back up to real time.

I have a 32gb on mine and did not notice any difference.

I have over 5000 music files on my USB stick. Maybe it's the volume of music files it needs to index or something, but the navigating is show to update when I'm using it.

It can be a laborious process scrolling through the lists. You could try using several smaller USB sticks.
