On the passenger door the proximity sensor stopped working. 2014 PP.
Is there a place to verify the problem? All other items work on the door mirror/window.
I feel like a setting is off. Is there a switch to enable disable it? When i touch the door with the FOB in my pocket it does not unlock. If i swipe my finger on the door handle with the fob in my pocket it does not lock. Any ideas? It is still under warranty but want to make sure its not a simple fix

Do you need to swipe the handle with the fob? I leave it in my pocket, and it works just fine.

swipe the handle with the fob? i don't swipe anything, i touch the lines on the door handle. with gloves, i have to press and hold.can't think of a way to shut off the passenger door, but maybe there's an option in the settings? did it used to work?

There is a setting accessible via the center head unit screen to turn the whole smart key system off. But that would turn it off for both driver and passenger doors. You indicated that it's only not working on the passenger door. That would be something for a dealer to verify and fix under warranty. Make sure you can lock and unlock the car via the big and small buttons on rear hatch to test the smart key antenna back there.

Some people get tricked by the "only unlock driver door when I touch driver handle" setting that you can toggle on and off by pressing and holding lock and unlock on key fob for 5 seconds. But this does not sound like your problem kenp11.

Here is a link to the smart key section of the owner's manual with good info; http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om/OM47856U/pdf/sec_01-04.pdf

    Good luck

Mine has inexplicably done that too, actually, as well as a few other random temporary electronic malfunctions.
My guess would be its due to errant electrical fields resulting from the large amounts of current being switched around.

I tried the reset button for 30 seconds and had no effect each way. Just the passenger door does not wrok when i hold the handel or swipe with my finger. The FOB is in my pocket or the other hand.

There is a setting in the head unit to turn it on, under "car."

perhaps the wire to the door antennae fell off. might have to pull the panel and have a look. does the door lock button work on the inside armrest?

Try changing the FOB's battery - it couldn't hurt

The Enterprise had trouble with that, too. Ion storms.

The different setting is for how MANY doors unlock, not to turn it off completely.
Warranty service is in order, I think.

When you think about it, in a car that uses so much switched current, it's practically impossible to engineer out all the EM interference.

I wouldn't call it a problem, as far as things go. My head unit resets itself some times, and my smart=key function tuned itself off. Bit of a nuisance, actually.
