Maybe the rear window offers easiest access to cutting the necessary cables/wires to disable any type of alarm. After they cut, they can open the doors without any alarm sounds.

Id just put a sticker on the window that says this. "This vehicles hybrid battery is protected by a active security system. In case of attempted theft it will deliver a 600v shock which can result in death as well as disabling the pack from being of any use". Since most criminals are ignorant high school/grade school drug addic drop outs it might be effective.

Each module has a serial # though, right ?

There has to be a market in order for the theft to be worthwhile.
If the Prius community takes upon itself to report the module serial #s of any used modules or packs that are bought, the trail back to the thiefs will be too bright to sustain the enterprise.

I'm pretty sure that Toyota knows the OEM module serial #s put into a VIN.

How has stamping numbers on parts affected the market? The VIN is already stamped in a number of places and that hasn't put the car theft/chop shop industry out of business.

We need the Electrovolt option that was available on the SUX in the Robocop movie.

I can't imagine toyota documenting each individual packs serial numbers, 28 at a time. If they did this, surely they would have stamped each pack with a completed pack serial number so it can be tracked if needed.

Once they get in, hit the unlock rocker switch on the driver or passenger front door.

If this happens to me, I pay my comp deductible, get it repaired, sell the car and buy a conventional. No more hybrid or plugin.
Obviously mfrs need to engineer battery security if it can be removed in 2 minutes.

In this country the family of the thief would have a lawsuit against toyota, and they would win if their son was killed while trying to steal a battery.

Highly doubtful. The battery pack and cables have earnings all over them. It is clearly marked and if death occurs it is on the negligence of the person doing it. Besides a thief has no rights in my opinion. No matter what way you spin the argument

Having been on three juries, it is clear there is no absolute in jury decisions. Most juries actually exercise common sense so highly doubtful is correct. There are (and always will be) renegade juries that defy sense, so sometimes the bad guys win.

Then they will trash it and look for that hidden gun safe.
