Make sure the brake switch is working. It won't go to Ready without that input.

You're right it wont - but the brake switch alone also wont make the gear selections blink rapidly either (refer to the video the OP posted).

I took the Prius to the dealership and was told that several components of the car's technical features has been compromised and it'll cost me $2800....I will definitely video record it for you guys so...I intend to ambush them because I have feeling that they are taking advantage of my ignorance of Prius knowledge..when I say ill ambush them I mean I'll tell him to show me and explain to me what's wrong with it ..then I hope you guys can dissect it for me

$2800 dollars and the check engine light on.....would probably mean the cat needs replacement. I hope they checked your 12v battery. You don't get any points if you catch them at misdiagnosing your car. They will say "yes you're right", you got away cheap........

Well you would need to call them and get more details, a $2800 repair should get your full attention.

Maybe they think you are staring at them? (Sorry, just cant get past that avatar!!!) :D

For $2800 + being a Prius, I can only imagine what kinds of things they are saying are wrong. Maybe an ECU (or two) or at the very least, maybe a main HV wiring harness? Please find out and let us know, then hopefully you can save some money with the advice of members from the site (y)(y)

The dealers will have gotten Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the computers, if they tell you what they got, we can second guess them. The codes are often of the form ANNN where the A is Alphabetic and the Ns are either Numbers or Letters. Some Codes with have secondary Codes as well so if there are any get those as well.

There is not sure fire '12 volt battery is toast' Code, but often you get wildly random codes when it is bad (The engine oil is low, your right wheel has fallen off, and the computer is bad, as an examples of random)

get a printout from the dealer showing all the codes, and a written estimate of all the work they want to do.

(I know I showed up late to this meeting, but...)

Boo! Unless I was in the middle of brain surgery or delivering a baby, a $2800 repair estimate has my attention.

Then again, if I was a doctor, maybe $2800 would be a small price to pay to tune out the car "gibberish" while asking for car help.
