This matches my understanding. Tesla hit the luxury car market hard, especially the foreign makers. So it is only expected they would respond in kind, eventually.

Do they have response planned for the Model X though? That will be the next big thing from Tesla. If no one else has something planned for that, I think they'll get caught off guard again.

BMW's direct competitor to the S will be coming out around the time of a S redesign if it follows the normal production cycle. I don't expect Tesla to do so with the Model 3 in the works. I do expect they'll other better batteries for increased range, with an option upgrade like they did for the Roadster.

So a BMW at $70k. But everyone knows the options list and their prices on BMW's traditional cars can add 50%. Do they go for economies of scale and limit options? Free upgrades? Free use of a charging system?

Owners reactions to the I3 are mixed on the forum I read earlier. Quality issues, range issues in the cold.

Lets wait and see where everybody is when all these promises are real.

This clearly identifies Tesla as a market leader.

My wife and I drove over the Loveland Pass in 1972 in a 1968 VW Beetle! That was the year before the I70 tunnel was opened, so there wasn't really much choice.

I was in first grade then :(
I passed by Loveland several times: once on bike twice in car. It was always either bad weather or no time or something else. Had been to Mt Evans and Trail Ridge road, but Loveland is firmly in my bucket list.

Actually more like Lexus ;) point taken though. Didn't know that prii handling like washing machines is a prerequisite.

BTW BMW are not the best handling cars, and most US BMW buyers buy it for brand image, not b/c they are good cars.
